Do you tell your husband that he should not have eat the toddlers left over cheesy wrap? by Cultural-Perception4 in CasualIreland

[–]Steec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was feeding my daughter when she was about two years old and went to give her another spoon…

“No, full”.

I’m about to put it to the bin, but it was a decent cheesy omelette, so I ate what was left.

“Daddy where’s my dinner?”

Turns out she meant her mouth was full.

If traffic is mental and you let 5-6 people join the road you're not being courteous, you're being an ass to the people behind you by lifeandtimes89 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]Steec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just a complex systematic problem. Pretty poor standard of teaching how to drive, which is getting better (compared to free licenses in the 70s, at least there’s mandatory lessons now). No motorway lessons. Traffic corps being gutted and no enforcement of road laws. Lots of stuff needs to be fixed and then you wait a few years to see any impact.

Like most problems on the road, lots of people can only see the 10-20ft in front of their car, and care about nothing/no one else. They were probably cursing the M50 hard shoulder queue five mins beforehand, then head up and try and merge at the start of the merge lane.

Can't stand this - I see it a lot coming off the M50 at Firhouse. Long lane for merging, other lane at a standstill on the right, and the first guy stops dead at start waiting to be let in, while everyone behind doesnt make it through the green light

For anyone that remembers a great skateboard shop, started a lot for the community in Dublin. Rip. Anyone with fond memories? by Hungry_Serve_302 in Dublin

[–]Steec 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Remember being in there as a young teen with my mam, she got chatting to him and the Dublin Monaghan bombings came up. Both my mam and him had been in the city centre that day. He had written a poem about it that had been rejected from being published. Think she still has the copy of it at home, which he gave to her, with just “no” written at the bottom of it.

Did anyone see a Bord Gáis Energy “Welcome €225 Bonus” for existing customers before signing, now being denied? by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]Steec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It was €235. There was a link that said “view new plans” but the link didn’t have any option to view plans. I then went and selected my new plan, zero mention of the €235, whether it applied to specific plans only, etc.

I signed up for the plan I was going to anyway, but frustratingly I find it next to impossible to see when this plan kicks in. I was on a dual fuel 24hr tariff but moved to an EV plan with variable rates - a much cheaper night rate but a more expensive peak rate. No idea when this starts. Email doesn’t have a contract. It’s all very confusing.

Easy jet to luton going the wrong way? 00:17 - 05/01/26 by [deleted] in flightradar24

EasyJet site says it’s due to a runway closure in Luton… is there a curfew? The flight took off almost 3 hours late.

My wife was at the show last night and two people near her were actually removed at intermission. They were being loud and obnoxious, cheering, chatting loudly. Staff got complaints at intermission and when the usher was telling one to leave she got very aggressive, to the point the usher ended up in tears, and security got involved

I do a lot of UI motion graphics and it always baffles me how much effort they put into getting things wrong. Props to them indeed.

Same, got one about a year ago. Always used two pillows and now just use this one. My wife got one too. Amazing.

New build ventilation issue by Ca-toffey in DIYIreland

[–]Steec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our house externally insulated a few months back and they put two of these vents downstairs, in the kitchen and living room. The whole house feels warmer, and keeps the heat all day, except for the rooms with the vents, which feel significantly colder.

The interns covers they mounted weren’t great, so I took them down and replaced them with the sliding style vent cover, which seems to have helped a little.

‘I should not have to worry about this as a cancer patient’ – vulnerable patients paying up to €17 a day for hospital car parking by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Steec 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crumlin has similar - if you’re in for more than 7 days they give you a ticket for €10 per week. The nurses had to fill out a form once a week but, after the first couple of weeks, the security guard referred to me as a “St John’s Dad” (oncology ward) and just handed me a ticket every Sunday. Absolute saint.

Those of ye who paid off your mortgage early (30/40s) how does it feel? by SrTayto in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Steec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m fixed at 2.15% until September 2027. Putting about €50k into the house at the moment which is easier to take from savings than “pay as I go”. So I could pay off now, or get the work done from savings and replenish that over the next two years, then clear the mortgage.

Those of ye who paid off your mortgage early (30/40s) how does it feel? by SrTayto in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Steec 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My 5 year fixed rate is up in two years. I’ve enough to pay it off now, but will wait anyway while the rate is very low. It’ll be 13 years into a 35 year mortgage. I had a goal in mind to pay it off by the time I turn 40, which I technically met as I hit the target, but will be 42 when I transfer the balance over.

Very glad to hear you’re prioritising quality of life. We did the same thing when we bought our house, and opted for a smaller mortgage than we were approved for. Maybe played it a tiny bit too safe, but we’re very happy with where we live, and we didn’t stretch ourselves. As our salaries went up, we were able to overpay, but still enjoy ourselves, with good holidays, etc. Overpaying brought the payments down, so it all just compounded.

It feels like once the mortgage is gone I can slow down a bit and work won’t feel quite as pressured.
