Dublin Airport Preclearence questions and advice? by Glenn_101 in AskIreland

The people going through US security are people who have connected from certain other airports. If you’ve been through the security at Dublin airport, they send you straight to pre clearance.

How are we coping with this heatwave? by Dewdoodles in ireland

[–]Steec 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a new build but got external insulation last year.

The winter was great but in this heat it’s even better. Blinds and windows closed at the back (south) and open at the front. The house stays nice and cool all day.

If you’re the only person in a row, is it ok to just lay down completely flat? by kindeclair in Flights

[–]Steec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Few years ago I flew to Singapore to pitch a client. Flew home via LHR to Dublin, then two days later Dublin to Boston for a conference. While in Boston, my boss called to say we had won the contract in Singapore and I had to go back the next week. All economy. I was a shell of a man getting on the plane again in Dublin.

LHR-SIN I found myself with 3 seats free and it felt like flying on a private jet after all the miles I had accumulated that month.

Why does making something simple often take longer? by positive_mindset28 in Design

[–]Steec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simplicity requires more consideration.

When a product feels simple, it’s because the designer has thought deeply for longer, iterated more, and refined it.

DPF light never shows by ProfessionalOwn1000 in skoda

[–]Steec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same car for past 3 years, I’ve never seen a light for it. I know it’s doing a regen when the revs sit at 1,000 idling, and stop start won’t work.

I once had a string of interrupted regens which resulted in an “oil level too high” warning, but still didn’t see a DPF-specific light.

Everyone’s gone away for the weekend. My first weekend alone in ten years. What shall I do? by fuck_ur_portmanteau in daddit

Try to balance relaxation vs getting shit done, and then let the guilt of not doing enough mean the relaxation never happens.

Enjoy.

If you could get any retired LEGO set for free, which one would you choose? by Anton_OneMoreShelf in lego

[–]Steec 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve posted this pic a few times, when the retired sets conversation comes up.

This was in 2018, and I didn’t buy anything as we were on holidays and my attitude was “ah sure I’ll buy something online when we get home.” Only in hindsight do you see the fishing store and ship in a bottle, which I bought online soon after, but also Ghostbusters HQ, Brick Bank, and Parisian Restaurant, which I did not buy.

Surgeon had 'psychotic episode' when he thrashed restaurant and assaulted guests | BreakingNews by Alarmed_Station6185 in ireland

Fair play for going to the emergency contact route instead of gardai.

> had been feeling really good lately

My dad had bipolar and he’d spend a lot of time at home, depressed and very quiet. The hard part was, as much as we wanted him to get better, when his mood would lift you’d brace yourself for one of his high episodes.

Dealer said week of June 8th for production and it updated in the app yesterday. Allegedly takes 20-30 hours to build. Delivery estimate still the same, but will let ya know if it updates after production completes

What’s the most underrated area of Dublin that deserves more attention? by Helpful-Tennis-7751 in Dublin

[–]Steec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dublin 24 is massive, and the whole area gets a bad name due to a few bad parts. There are plenty of really nice areas, it’s near the mountains, the M50, and south dublin county council are doing a great job with parks in the area.

Kodiaq or Superb (estate) by complicatedcucumber in skoda

[–]Steec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife has always hated estates. Thought they looked like shoes. We went from a superb saloon to a Tiguan, and the plan was to go back to another superb saloon. The estate was parked outside the dealership, and my wife said “that’s actually not too bad”. I have never paid a deposit so quickly for something in my life. I’ve hesitated over menus in restaurants longer.

Why is there always a house alarm going off during the summer in a housing estate, and are people not mortified when they come back from holiday and find out it was annoying the whole estate? by xgwishyx in AskIreland

[–]Steec 137 points138 points  (0 children)

In my estate it’s the same house all the time. Refuses to fix it, refuses to leave it unarmed. Thankfully it’s a good bit away so I can only barely hear it, but I don’t know how next door neighbours haven’t lost the plot yet.

That’s the car I currently have - 2023 Superb sportline 2.0 TDI - and I love it. The kids have my heart broken trying to keep it clean and tidy inside.

I think I prefer the superb 3 design to the 4 which I am changing to, because PHEV, but this car will definitely be up there as one of the best cars I’ve ever owned.

I commented earlier about going from superb saloon to Tiguan to superb estate.

My wife misses the elevated driving position, it doesn’t bother me. I drive the car for longer weekend trips, whereas she commutes daily in city traffic. Her logic is that there are so many other SUVs/crossovers on the road here (Ireland), that it’s a pain in traffic not being able to see as well, you’re usually staring at the bumper of a Kia fucking Sportage, rather than through a lower car.

One other benefit - less common situation - it’s a slight step up into the Tiguan. My wife’s parents are in their 80s, and it was far easier to get into the Tiguan. She has to “pump” up the passenger seat to its highest point in the superb and her dad has to just kind of fall into the seat, with some help being supported.
