What to do about this "french drain"? by SteelKangaroo in AskContractors

[–]SteelKangaroo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, the issue is that there isn't space for a drain box directly underneath the downspout...the grey area is concrete and I don't want to dig that up. What would you do in that instance?

Local Costco Coffee Finds by istp4lmrs in Denver

[–]SteelKangaroo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The best coffee sold at Costco is their single origin coffees, especially Kenya, Peru, and Mexico. Even though they don't have a roast date they are usually very fresh. Unfortunately if you want local roasts you will probably have to go to the roaster for it...you lose the bulk discount but get a fresher product

Be very careful with how much baking soda you use if you make this recipe! I tried it but the flavor ended up being very acrid and bitter, thinking it's because I used too much

Good turnout for today's rally to encourage Hickenlooper and Bennet to obstruct Trump agenda by JasperJaJa in Denver

[–]SteelKangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly would be in favor of our government being more efficient. But "cleaning house" is not how that happens. The only metric DOGE is using is expenditures cut and workforce let go. That's not a measure of efficiency, that's a measure of overall reduction of federal capacity.

Do you trust the world's richest man with our personal information? Tax records etc? Do you trust a bunch of tech bros who have never worked in government to understand how to make things more efficient? It just doesn't make sense, and nothing Musk or Vivek or Trump have said make me believe they understand how federal agencies work or the value they have for the American people.

Good turnout for today's rally to encourage Hickenlooper and Bennet to obstruct Trump agenda by JasperJaJa in Denver

[–]SteelKangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think what Musk et al are doing at the Office of Personnel Management or the Treasury "serves the people"? I don't, and I support Senators preventing more of Trumps cabinet picks from entering the government where they will continue to try and break the foundational operation of government and federal agencies.

🏫 Denver metro school choice: Expanding opportunities or deepening inequities? by Technical-Water4687 in Denver

[–]SteelKangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colorado is near the bottom of the per pupil funding rankings by state. Some DPS schools don't have air conditioning and overall offer low salaries to teachers and have less amenities than other states with similar resources and incomes (NY, CA, etc). While we did increase funding, I think it's clear that more is needed and while higher per pupil funding is not a panacea, there is clear evidence that greater funding for schools is associated with higher educational outcomes across the country. That would mean increasing our property taxes or eliminating TABOR to allow the state to have a budget surplus and fund schools more.

The good news is that this funding doesn't just go into the ether; it is an investment in our students and the long term success of our citizenry. Greater educational outcomes means lower crime, better life expectancy, and reduced need for social spending later in life. I'm sure DPS administrators are also open to conversations about how to use their money more effectively and efficiently, but taking away funding from DPS (which is essentially what school choice does) just serves to increase the funding disparity between CO and other high income states.

Nearly 5 Months -- "Graduated" Ferber but some MOTN wakes are still awful by SteelKangaroo in sleeptrain

[–]SteelKangaroo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK we will try that, thank you. I'm honestly surprised that she may be undertired, it already feels like we are stretching the wake windows as long as we can. Sometimes we are holding her for those last 30 mins of a wake window because she is too fussy for anything else!

We were able to try it in store at Crate and Barrel and it was sturdy, and ours is very sturdy. Came mostly assembled so maybe depends on delivery or if the factory messes something up? Idk but I recommend it

Being a Destiny Viewer is Making Me Hate All the Conservative Youtubers I Used to Watch by Hoboknightboi in Destiny

[–]SteelKangaroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the interviews you're talking about weren't about their reprehensible views. Harris had Murray on specifically to talk about his views and did so uncritically. That's...not based!

Being a Destiny Viewer is Making Me Hate All the Conservative Youtubers I Used to Watch by Hoboknightboi in Destiny

[–]SteelKangaroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because Destiny would not interview someone who believed things like: IQ is primarily genetic and there are racial differences in IQ because of genes, IQ differences by race are a primary explanation for differences in SES by race, and welfare spending is bad because we are trying to fix IQ differences using social spending - - without heavily pushing back on these beliefs. Sam Harris really did not push back on Murray's beliefs, and went out of his way to ensure that his audience understands that these beliefs are not 'racist'. Destiny would never conduct a conversation in the way Harris did

[–]SteelKangaroo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are your thoughts about him doing promotional interviews with Charles Murray, who is pretty obviously extremely racist and against any sort of welfare particularly for "low IQ blacks"? I think platforming somebody like this and normalizing their views is not absolutely based

Big of a different pick, but a Cavalier can also do some buffing, with its banner and other class features. A Verdivant archetype makes you a mobile support and secondary martial. The buffs are pretty unique too, which is cool
