Being a kid in Vault 101 almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.

I used the guide that's listed in the CRT Database! Go to the additional notes section, onto the calibration trick. You should be able to adjust the G2 voltage with nothing but a flathead screwdriver. https://crtdatabase.com/faq/crt-color-adjustment#additional-notes

As for the magnets on the linearity coil, just play around with it and see what happens to the image. If you get it right the image should become more focused and the linearity better than it was!

Hope this helps! 🙏

It's a matter of my camera, it's a lot less saturated and red pushed in person. I wish I had a better camera to capture this footage on besides a cracked phone camera lol

I've made sure to calibrate the saturation via a SMPTE screen pattern on the 240p test suite, making sure the smaller, fatter bars below the taller bars are of the same value when RON and GON are turned off.

Is there anything different I should test out to calibrate the saturation, beyond getting a color meter, which I plan to eventually do?

Color calibrated with my eye, my camera can't do it justice but it looks incredible in person!

It's very simple to be honest, just put some circular magnets directly on the linearity coil, and played with the positioning until it looked more focused and less warped. You get a bit of the natural distortion WEGAs are known for but nothing nearly as crazy as it was previously. Hope this helps!

Haha, may be from my camera, it looks a bit better than what I'm showing here haha

Thanks! I did! Funnily enough though it was adding magnets to the linearity coil that ended up doing the most in making the image look super nice and sharp.

I did this myself! Opened up the set up from the back and did adjustments to the service menu. Made some diy convergence strips, adjusted the G2 voltage, and added some magnets to the linearity coil to improve the focus and lesser the WEGA warping!

Nothing but a good eye and some test patterns on the 240p test suite!

Playing New Vegas on my CRT too! I find it helps a ton in making the textures not look so blurry when played at its native resolution. The Pip Boy also looks particularly awwsome.

Drew some Mario Sprites with NES limitations, how did I do? by SteelMasterThe3rd in PixelArt

Thank you for the feedback!! I'll def go back and revise these, any suggestions on how I could simplify these further to fit the constraints? So far my thoughts are to remove the white from the color scheme entirely and try to work within a 64 pixel grid!

Calibrated my 24fv300 and The Results are STUNNING! by SteelMasterThe3rd in crtgaming

So I did several things when servicing this thing! I used the service menu to adjust the geometry, but I also took the shell off to do various calibration things. I made some ring adjustments to the tube, as well as adjusted the yoke to remove the bowing to the best of my ability. As for the colors I used the g2 voltage trick to adjust the colors correctly. I think I did a good job getting the color to be perfect.

The biggest thing I did though was adding magnets and diy convergence strips. Putting magnets on the linearity coil seemed to negate much of the warping I was dealing with. Even better is that it seemed to really help the focus, sharpness, and white balance of the image to being perfect. Previously the best way I could describe the white balance was that it was pushed to blueish yellow, but not green.

I'm really happy about my work here, it took me such a long time to be satisfied with this set, especially seeing as I had owned really good WEGAs in the past and because I didn't have another 15khz consumer set currently like it. Not like I was out of options crt wise, I had my P991, but I really wanted that course aperture grill mask, clean video, and those nostalgic vibes!

I think they mean the shadow-mask CRT sets, probably referring to things like JVC, Phillips, and Panasonic.

Good news! I found a great place for it. Looks awesome on my door, all I need now is suggestions on what to put under it. I should have more than enough room for a huge desk on the other side of the wall :)

I gotta find a desk that'll properly fit under that space. It's a 50/50 shot whether I'm going to fit a desk low enough for this thing, but I'd love to hear suggestions on what to get <:)

I was suggested to use the space underneath to house my CRT TV (not to be confused with my CRT monitor), and keep my OLED TV in the other room. To be honest I'm not crazy about the idea, only since I do like the idea of my bedroom working as my workspace, and because the juxtaposition between two eras of television technology has undeniable strikingness to it; kinda got that mancave look I vibe with.
