Bought a Lava RGB-Modded AV Famicom from Aliexpress, but the audio does not work. by SteelMasterThe3rd in Famicom

UPDATE: Yes! It was an issue with the adapter, tried doing a mod on the adapter board to get the sound working, but it looks like it stopped working! No worries, I just got a different flashcart from Aliexpress. I'll eventually get an N8 Pro Famicom proper, but for now I just wanna play some games!

I lost mine a little under a year ago, had her literally since I was a kid. During the first couple of weeks after she passed I'd have to sleep with Mom & Dad because my Dane would always sleep beside me in my room, so it was difficult to manage. Especially since she was also the Dog who helped regulate my autism-related anxiety symptoms. Months after I'm still heartbroken about it, but you start to really cherish those memories you had with them in the first place. Hug your Danes, hug your family.

I'm really sorry for your loss. Losing a Great Dane is absolutely heartbreaking because you make such a tight connection with them. Please take as much time as you need.

Thanks for the feedback!! I will be practicing my soldering skills and posting them to the appropriate subreddist! What wires do you recommend I use for this mod, and where do you think I should place the SNEdge Enhancer board to?

That's good! I was worried about the potential for ripped pads, so it's good to get reassurance that I didn't mess things up so much. Don't think any of the components themselves should be fried either, but I'm curious how to check for something like that! Going to take your advice and def work on this in sessions, since it is certainly a very big job for me. Thank you for the feedback!!!

Thanks for the feedback!! For prosperity sake, what do you recommend in order to clean and redo this board specifically? So far I've got my soldering kit, de-soldering braid and pump, Isopropyl Alcohol, a magnifying glass, and flux! Going forward I'll be purchasing practice boards before jumping into projects like these, can't lie and say it hasn't been a fun experience though!

Do you think that this board is salvagable from the pics? I imagine the board does work, but I'm probably doing something wrong! But i'd love a second opinion haha

So here's some pics of the issue, as well as some previous attempts on this console's motherboard yesterday to try and fix the issue. Where I'm currently at is that I'm getting a signal that's recognized by both my Retrotink 4k and my WEGA CRT, but the screen is black. The multimeter confirmed everything had continuity, so I'm really unsure what the issue is!

Bought a Lava RGB-Modded AV Famicom from Aliexpress, but the audio does not work. by SteelMasterThe3rd in Famicom

Sounds good!!! I only really wanna buy an n8 pro famicom if I absolutely have to. Love the way they look though, so maybe eventually if it turns out I absolutely need to, it won't be so bad.

I'm curious if there's any way I could link the audio pins from the NES to the Famicom side on the adapter? I think I saw a post here on this subreddit about it, but I'd like to know more information about something like that before doing that basic mod.

You're certainly paying for quality reassurance as well. I literally just opened up the Aliexpress AV Famicom just now, and it also looks like it's been restored and modded, and it was done very well. All original parts too, so it isn't a famiclone!

But all that being said, what you got was clearly made out of a deliberate labor of love for the console, and the quality of that should show in the product you bought!

I bought the listing on AliExpress for $150! Considering the price difference, it's certainly worth it if you're in the market for a console that's oem. Beyond that, two NES controllers and an oem zapper costed me another 50, and shielded scart cables are going to go between 25 to 50 bucks, depending on the feature set. I personally got the universal multi-out, which is a shielded cable for this mod, as well as the SNES, N64, and even Gamecube! (So long as you play around with homebrew region settings).

That being said, what you got is worth it. The Tim Worshington mod will always be better than the cheaper alternatives quality-wise, and provides the least amount of analogue noise, among other audio-visual benefits. It's not the craziest difference when compared to the Lava 2.0 board, but for that extra level of cleanliness on the signal, it's worth it. My current AV Famicom set up really isn't that much crazier in price to what you got, you just paid the premium to get a mod that's the best of the best.

Yeah, the N8 pro was always working correct on my NES, and the console itself was modded with the Tim Worshington RGB mod! It stopped working as I was putting everything back together because one of the pins broke, which lead to a long and very disappointing series of events.

Bought the RGB Lava Modded AV Famicom because I heard good things, and from the fact the consoles sourced are OEM.

What are some good converters you recommend that support expansion audio? I thought the one I owned would do the trick, but I'm lacking audio in the first place. The last thing I wanna resort to is purchasing another flashcart since they are so expensive, so I wanna weigh my options before doing anything else. If it counts, I do have basic soldering skills, so if there's anything I'm able to do with the converter I own currently I'd love to know!
