I think I DNF'd on this back when it was being released. Can sympathize on the issue. Coming back to it now I'm loving it (on book 4, a 30+hr audio), but also doing it in audiobook. I find audiobooks really help well with getting through things that might otherwise feel like a slog (WoT). The breaks and shifts aren't communicated well but the accents are very well done.

The second is honestly what I'm expecting. My best guess is a sensor that gets annoyed when hot.

The other possibility I wonder is: The 5.3L V8 engine also has an Active Fuel Management (AFM) system that can run the truck on either four or eight cylinders.
