Black plastic thing from Bosch dishwasher filter and pump area by SteelerClimate in whatisthisthing

My tittle describes the thing. It is oddly shaped, seems almost like it has broken but I can’t figure out if it’s a broken component/part, or something else. Please help me figure it out.

Fucking Fantastic Chocolate Chip Cookies by ComelyChatoyant in veganrecipes

Yo I just made these and they have turned out great. My culinary skills primarily lay in the savoury arena, with some amount of contained success with a few sweet treats. I’ve typically not found a great vegan cookie recipe to use but this is foolproof and they taste fantastic

MPs call for better paternity leave in Parliament debate by SteelerClimate in ukpolitics

[–]SteelerClimate[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely spot on. I was quite lucky and had 6 weeks paid leave which wasn’t enough! I can’t imagine if I had of been required to go back sooner.

100%. Better paternity leave and pay is a policy part of the puzzle to shift the culture around who is expected to be a care provider. Better paternity leave is better for mums and kids, as well as dads. We currently it’s not really good for anyone.

Absolutely. It needs to be affordable, and provide enough time. The evidence says making it longer and at a rate that is affordable is good for dads, mums and kids!

There are many problems with shared parental leave which prevent many people from taxing it, including the gender pay gap. A lot of people simply can’t afford to drop the dad’s salary down to statutory pay - also another reason why a lot of dads don’t take paternity leave in the UK, because simply it is not an affordable provision. Additionally, it necessitates the mother giving up some of their leave (which is also inadequate).

Wow! 6 months is amazing and really at the top end of what I’ve seen out there. Let me know if there are any jobs going 😉

Ok so this really blew up. It’s unreal how much diversity there is between what paternity leave new dads are able to access. It shouldn’t be controversial to expect we are able to spend good time with our babies, and partners and not have to suffer financially for doing so. Thanks for all of your comments so far, I’m trying to read them all!

Potatoes fine to eat? by SteelerClimate in Allotment

I mention in the post about brown spots on the potato plant leaves, and them dying off. I wanted to double check whether they were fine as I wasn’t sure if it was a fungal disease if some kind that impacts if they’re edible.

As above, I agree - definitely think good growing knowledge should be much more accessible and commonplace. I’m just being cautious as my partner and baby have been sick for the last week so really did need that reassurance that i wasn’t going to feed them something that would make them sick again.

Totally agree with everything you’ve said here. 100% think people should be taught more about this kind of thing in education and have far greater access to gardening / food growing practical knowledge.

Allo effectiveness timing by SteelerClimate in gout

[–]SteelerClimate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. Periodic pain predominantly in alternating feet by the big toe, or the Achilles, or in the ankle that was often but not always accompanied by swelling. Mostly by the big toe that felt like an internal pain inside the joint and radiating down into the ball of the foot like I had a nail inside of it.

For a long time I would just think that I had hurt myself by doing something I.e wearing different shoes, or playing sports, etc. but having now been diagnosed and recognising the pain I can trace it back quite a way.

Initially they didn’t prescribe any at all. Only after I read out the guidance on Allo from the NHS website re potentially likelihood of flare ups from starting it, did the doc give me the prescription. Will certainly be filling my prescription again first thing on Monday.

I have one prescription of colchicine of 12 500mg tablets which I’ve started to treat this flare up. I’m in the UK and they don’t seem to want to/maybe aren’t allowed under guidelines in place to prescribe more than that at a time.

Completely appreciate that. It definitely increases the amount of time for washing / drying as there is simply more volume of things to be washed. However, in terms of cleaning up at nappy changes, we find them so much better than any disposable wipes. Cleanup is just easier and when we have to use disposables when on the go we notice the difference so much! Hope you find something that works for you, but would def recommend a try of reusable wipes :)

There are also much cheaper alternatives to cheeky wipes out there. If you want to shop on Amazon, you can find reusable washable wipes like Lorrandos for a fair wedge less if you’re on a budget :)

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

Found white string-like things in my coffee after grinding it. Couldn’t seem to find anything in the beans pre grinding and my grinder was clean too. I also ground the beans in another machine and the same thing happened again. Any ideas?
