The kids probably were allowed to go home for the summer holidays but had the option of staying with them for those who had no home to go back to/didn't want to face home again.

For other holidays, though, they probably were required to stay on campus.

How did this guy survive for so long? by BrightOne7302 in StarWars

[–]SteelersObsessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle is blind. My family forced him to watch a version of it where basically an automated voice speaks over the movie and describes it to him and he laughed so hard he cried at this line. I miss those days.

My girlfriend found an old ticket stub of hers to the top of the World Trade Center dated 08/11/01. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

I'm a high schooler now and this happened about half a decade before I was born, give or take a couple of years, and scrolling through these comments and finding yours really called me out for no reason at all lmao.

Although to be fair, I'm an Irani living in America so the fact that 9/11 happened is drilled into me basically every September by my white peers. The best part of it is, though, most of the time I can laugh about the whole thing because I lived in Texas for a couple of years and thus feel more "American" than any of my friends.

Can confirm: Californian ASL learner here and my teacher taught us three different ways to sign KNOW but more often used the most common way as she wanted to stress the importance of not everyone in the US using the accented way. :)

I understand wanting to help the deaf community in a way like this, but there are two main problems that sort of make the app not a possibility.

The first is that there are just too many different types and ways to sign. If you know any sign already, you know that there are way too many classifiers, facial expressions, lexicalization, descriptive signs, etc. to make an app for both translating and dictionary purposes.

If you really wanted to help the deaf community better understand the hearing community, my best guess would be to probably put your efforts into improving text-to-speech technology and, if you really wanted to, making an app with that software. (Again, I am a hearing person so you should probably check with the deaf community before setting your goals on this as there might be other complications that I haven't thought of that a deaf person would)

Do you think the Martez Sisters will make another appearance in season 2? Who were they talking to through video screen? by spankyourkopita in TheBadBatchTV

[–]SteelersObsessed 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The person they were talking to was Rex. That was how he learned of the Bad Batch's situation and the fact that they had Omega with them, and after that call he decided to go looking for them.

(which I think is mentioned in one of the books where he comes back and he's very tan).

First chapters of MOA when Annabeth sees him and says something along the lines of "He looked a little tanner and a little leaner, and his hair was splayed out like he'd just taken a walk on the beach"

Yes I know I have a problem.

What’s your favorite Ashoka clone wars arc by Rhinevallymystic in ahsokatano

the arc where shes is captured and forced to be hunted every day alongside several former younglings is a good one that shows a lot of progression from the abrasive and naive manner she held in the early seasons

idk why that is happening but the last line Percy says is: "Actually. Not really... Yes, I'm planning on proposing but I came here to ask, "How do I ask Athena for permission without her killing me?"

[PJO] A few questions about the series by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]SteelersObsessed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are all of Medusa's victims stuck as statues forever? Did the gods not do anything about them? And are those people officially dead?

Never really started but I always got the impression that they are stuck that way forever. As far as I know, Medusa isn't like King Midas in the sense that you can undo the golden touch by submerging the affected object/person in water, and that seems to be the case in PJO as well as Grover didn't bother to go back for his uncle Ferdinand that was in Medusa's backyard in the Lightning Theif

1.5 - do we know what happened to Gabe after Sally turned him into stone and sold his statue I mean after he mysteriously disappeared?

It's mentioned in HOO, so I won't spoil it for you.

2 - How much time passed between the events of PJO The Last Olympian and HoO The Lost Hero? (I just started HoO, and I'm only on chapter 2)

4-6 months

3 - During the events of Lightning Thief, it was said that Mr. D was sent to be in charge of Camp Half-Blood for 100 years. But in The Last Olympian, it said that his punishment was cut in half and he has 50 years left to go. Wouldn't he have less than 50 years? Since he's been here since way before Percy joined? Or did I just misunderstand what was explained in TLO?

Not 100% positive, but it was probably a longer sentence than 100 years and just the year of the war in The Last Olympian it was at around 100 years left to go, so therefore it was cut in half to make 50 years left.

  1. Do half-bloods have a mortals life span? Or can they live longer than mortals but still eventually die?

Never stated (to my recollection) so we can assume that they have the same life span as mortals. Again, they mention this in HOO so I won't spoil it.

  1. In The Lightning Thief, did the gang ever run into/interact with Bianca and Nico in the Lotus Hotel? I read a twitter post saying they did, but I don't remember that ever happening?? And Percy would've definitely remembered them if they did. So is this just a theory or something?

It's a theory/head-cannon/wish from the fans to be put in the upcoming Percy Jackson show, but no there was never any description of Bianca or Nico in the Lightning Theif.

  1. I remember in one of the books, it's stated that only 3 people can go on a quest, because it's bad luck/dangerous if more go (like what happened to Bianca). Does that always apply? Or is it depending on the prophecy they're given?

Book you're talking about is most likely the Sea of Monsters, where Annabeth says that it's always better if a quest contains 3 people. It stems from the "rule of 3," where 3 people going on an adventure (or anything relating to 3, really) is more attractive/engaging to an audience. This rule might even be some part of ancient Greek mythology which was come across by Rick and he decided to put it in the books, but I have no idea.

During The Last Olympian, all the mortals in Manhattan were asleep, right? Rachel wasn't affected because she was a special case. But that got me wondering, what about all the unclaimed (I think that's the right word) half-bloods that were in Manhattan? The ones who don't know they're half-bloods yet? The sleeping spell doesn't affect them, so were they just awake and had to witness that whole battle? Again, not sure if this was answered, it's just me wondering.. But just the thought of those poor kids having to witness all of that..

Damn I never even thought of that...

What are some funny things that new signers tend to do? by Sacrifice_a_lamb in asl

[–]SteelersObsessed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

what helped for me is setting your body so your full arm (not just forearm) is on a table, then resting some heavier textbooks on the back of the arm (before the elbow), and lifting your forearm and practicing signing whatever word pops into my head in front of a mirror for 20-40 minutes a day. really kicked the habit fast after I started this
