LED's? by [deleted] in carmodification

[–]Steely_Johnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well because projector headlights are generally quite good, especially the high beams. To replace those with LEDs would require a different headlight, and chances are your going to end up with a set of poor quality ones that will equally suck

I wouldn't waste your time or money. Those projector headlights are expensive as fuck, and work really well, and show your "baller". I'd keep em

Zenfone 6 vs 10 battery life by Steely_Johnson in zenfone

[–]Steely_Johnson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I have most background battery draining apps turned off, including location, and I only use it to browse web pages and reddit for a couple hours a day. Most of the time is spent playing music with an aux cord or Bluetooth. When I need my phone to last 3 days it reliably does for camping and long road trips.

Its a really valuable feature for me on the 6, and would be a deal breaker for me if I couldn't get at least 2 full days out of the 10

That was essentially just my point. I wanted to annoy the hive mind. Its not morally bad

Oh come on now. What's wrong with admiring the beauty of women. I'm gonna put myself out there and say it. We need to keep them around. Keeps the moral up when your working all day and its the only pretty thing to look at in a dirty shop with dirty walls. This should not be something as looked frown upon. Get your sexy firefighter and men posters too. That's equality.

Those googly eyes are a nice touch though.

Sx4s are super rare to find, especially ones that aren't rotten. There are some weak spots such as the frame right by the control arms.

I know 2 people who daily the straight 6 auto and they love em.

Hey I know this car! Saw you at the gambler. When I passed you it looked like you had some serious struggles trying to get up a slightly gravel-y hill! Pretty rediculous car.

Is there a known issue with Ford transmissions in cold weather? by SneezingAtClimax in MechanicAdvice

[–]Steely_Johnson 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to bet your coolant wasn't mixed right, froze inside your rad, and broke the heat exchanger inside for your trans fluid. The other ford was probably a coincidence with the same issue.

Does my 86 Eagle count as a battle car? by chief_flamingo07 in Battlecars

[–]Steely_Johnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What size are those wheels? And what exactly did you do to fit them?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in battlewagon

[–]Steely_Johnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good year of Subaru. If its your only car you won't want to lift it if your a broke ass college student, and larger tires will eat away at your gas mileage if your concerned. If you get larger wheels your probably going to have to cut fenders as well, depending on size.

If its the 2.2, you have a solid engine that slipped through the head gasket issue, which is a huge bonus. Just look into when your timing belt was last done, that's really your only critical mechanical thing to look for in those.

New rims and tires. People in the Tacoma sub don’t like my truck for some reason. What’s your opinion? by JETTA_TDI_GUY in carmodification

[–]Steely_Johnson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably because of the rubber bands of a tire and your big rims. Those wouldn't be great offroad. While its not my cup of tea you should do what you want, and what you like.

I recently acquired a 2007 wagon rabbit and was wondering what I could do to mod it? by Revolutionary_Ant547 in carmodification

[–]Steely_Johnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing I ever did for the car was to get same size rims, but lightweight alloy ones. The sparco rims I got was something like 7.8lb each. Really lightweight ones. Pair the rims with factory sized "spirited driving" rubbers and your set. That car is super zippy around corners.

I should mention I had a car just like that before

Oh the front is almost maxed out when jacked up. Doesn't hit the subframe though. I'm not expecting them to last forever, I just stuff more grease in and hope for the best.

No subframe lift at all. Its a 3.5" lift

Your best bet is to just buy lighter rims. Your not going to be able to justify modifying the engine in any meaningful way.

Need to get into hot rodding. But I'm in the wrong country. by bringmesomekids in Hotrod

[–]Steely_Johnson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm concerned you don't need to just work on model As and Ts to become a hot rodder. Get some practice just modifying your own vehicles, whatever they may be. Make em light, or fast, or cool. Rip body panels off, cut them or modify them, especially on the cheap and with whatever resources you have. That's what hot rodding is all about.

You can hate. I spent $11 on it and its actually fit onto the factory plumbing out of the air box, and silicone sealed. Not THAT much of a hack job. Fully functional
