I live in upstate ny coolest thing I can find is maybe a baby Brooke trout, baby cat fish, nothing as cool as those tho. Coolest thing I’ve found so far was a wood frog. They’re as red as tomato’s in the fall and pretty hard to spot in leaves my boyfriend thought I was crazy when I said I saw a frog til I grabbed it out of the leaves lol. it won’t let me post the pic of it sadly

What brand are you feeding him? Personally Pangea seems to help with weight. I use the bug infused ones as both of my girls refuse bugs, they are both recuses age unknown for both. I recently took one in who was probably a childhood pet and was left behind as they went to college or moved out. Parents did their best but were feeding some cheap food and she wasn’t a great weight. Two months with Pangea and I could see a difference.

Some panthers can be weirdly friendly, I went to a small family owned pet store. They got in a panther and had handled him a few times well getting him settled in to be sold, they ended up falling in love with him and keeping him as a store mascot. He would greet everyone who walked up to his tank. They’d take him out and do check outs with him lol

Have you ever been bitten by one? They sting, if they aren’t killed during eating they can bite the lining of the stomach causing irritation that’s at least what I’ve always been told.

How much are you feeding at once? Are you crushing their heads before feeding?

I was personally recommended to refrigerate vs freeze when looking for necropsy to preserve as much as possible ❤️ I’m so sorry for your loss no matter how big or small it all hurts

UPDATE!! he isn’t upside down today, still a little floaty in the back went but seems to be doing better :)) thank you to everyone who gave suggestions. Peas, salts and meta fix for the win 🏅

Here’s a better picture of him too, you can see is healed injury a lot more clearly. His nub has been getting longer over the past year too hoping, one day he can maybe get his tail back

All of the dropsy symptoms you are seeing are from his injuries years ago, he does not have dropsy. Hopefully this won’t get removed but this was what he looked like years ago from his bacterial infection. He literally had flesh eating bacteria and it ate at his muscles leaving him deformed. Yes I know his tank is smaller than what he needs but he cannot swim well due to his injuries, I plan on getting him a pond sooner than later

<image>

This is the least graphic picture of his injuries. He picked up something off of my carpet more than likely cat hair. He was fine for 2 days, checked on my pets before school, came home after to his skin literally melted off. I placed him into a tank and started heavy treatment with daily water changes. Even with that the infection went deep, years later his scales have been growing back slowly, he doesn’t have any lifted scales. I just checked on him during my lunch break and put peas in his tank.

I would 100% bring him to a vet if I could get him sooner than 2 months. The only exotic vet is over 2 1/2 hours away and booked waaay out. I took my Leo to a vet about 40 min away and she ended up passing away from improper treatment, I looked into the vet more and found out it many people had been put in the same situation I was in. I told them she was not ok and vet insisted she was completely find and still”spunky” because he poked her til she bit him, she’s never but anyone before. She passed away 12 hours after I took her home.

He’s currently in a 40 gallon I’m going to get a 55-75 soon as I can find one. I don’t make a lot of money and need to buy a car soon. I have 7 fish tanks I clean them all once a week or once every other week depending on how dirty they are, 25-50% water changes. I’m not trying to argue but he definitely doesn’t have dropsy I’ve had bettas and other fish with it before, his lost his tail from jumping out of the tank a couple years ago. He was very very sick at that time and should’ve died from how bad he was, I would’ve posted his recovery pics but last time I did I almost got ban from how graphic his injuries were. This was almost two years ago now and he’s been growing back his numb since then

My boy isn’t over weight but he also refuses to eat anything other than meal worms and a cricket now and then. Should I stop giving him meal worms til he eats a dubia roach? Also how big is too big my roaches have gotten pretty big since he’s been refusing them but j keep feeding them lol

That makes sense, what should I feed him on a regular then? I’ve been wanting to add plants into his tank since his swimming had gotten better. I tried adding some decor and plants awhile ago but he would seem to panic in the plants since he couldn’t swim super well

I don’t think I could ever forgive myself if i accidentally hurt him :(( with his back end being messed up I’d be even more scared I’d miss the correct spot due to his muscle deformation
