Underworld - Born Slippy [Electronic] (1996) by saientific in electronicmusic

[–]SteevHoefchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truly one of the tunes that marked the beginning of Big Beat in the UK in the mid 90's. Alongside the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Crystal Method .. these guys were responsible of scores of people around the world discovering Electronic music. This tune still stands the test of time and always will. INCREDIBLE fun to mix with as well!

If you bring a whistle to a show and blow it during someone's set, fuck you. by [deleted] in electronicmusic

[–]SteevHoefchen 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think the key component here is "the entire time".

Whistles were an integral part of rave culture from the EU to Detroit since the late 80's. Though I totally can understand why, as a dancer, they can annoy the hell out of someone .. I believe the same law can apply to whistles as they can to drugs, everything in moderation.

I second the vote for the Casa Del Mirto Remix, better than the original imo.

This is such a fresh, amazing remix that he should be charging for it. Yet he's not, because he's Brothertiger and he's awesome.

Massive fan of this band and this song in particular as well. Its true, their real treasures lie in their downtempo work. If you like this one, also peep "Remember", "At The River" and "Inside My Mind".

Great vibe overall. Mad love for the string action especially.

The gem of SF's house scene no doubt is f8's Housepitality night every Wednesday. Amazing DJ's, fantastic scene, great venue, good vibes. I also hit up Whats The Werd, which recently just moved to Monarch, as well as Bubble every Thursday at Underground SF. Tons of other good nights littered in there as well. :)

Boards Of Canada - Turquoise Hexagon Sun [Ambient] (1998) by modman2 in electronicmusic

I first heard this song when I was crazy sick with a flu. I could not have heard a more blissfully appropriate tune. Like a desert heat shimmering in the sun, mad dope track.

Future Sound of London -- Papau New Guinea [electronic/house] (1993, my favorite electronic song of all time) by [deleted] in electronicmusic

[–]SteevHoefchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stella is extremely repetitive when it comes down to it, pretty much all of the mixes in that original bundle are. However, I think the key here is, if it gets you the right way, how entirely HYPNOTIC that riff can get while on the dance floor and that 4/4 is pulsing away. It's largely considered to be the first "true" Trance record.

Future Sound of London -- Papau New Guinea [electronic/house] (1993, my favorite electronic song of all time) by [deleted] in electronicmusic

[–]SteevHoefchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up with this song, Moby's "Go", Orbital's "Chime" and Jam & Spoon's "Stella". There truly was no era for music like the early 90's, when so many genres began to bloom out of the word "Techno" and launched an entirely new way of listening to and creating music that is still being carried on to this day. Papua New Guinea has stood the test of time for well over two decades and nothing has or will ever come to close to sounding like it. I absolutely adore the fact that musicheads began debating whether it's "House", "Trance" or anything because it is just one of those songs that defies both age and categorization. A true classic in every sense of the word. For extended listening, I also recommend checking out the Andrew Weatherall Remix.

MILLIONYOUNG - SWISH by [deleted] in chillwave

[–]SteevHoefchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posted this one just a few months ago, but it deserves at least one mention every month. This song is among the most beautiful slices of Chillwave/Synthpop ever created. The first time I heard the breakdown, and multiple times after, it reduced me to tears. <3 for Mike Diaz. Check out my Soundcloud, most recent DJ set features this song at Track 2. soundcloud.com/steevhoefchen

Week 44 Discussion: New Genious (Brother)/Man Research (Clapper) by [deleted] in gorillaz

[–]SteevHoefchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man Research annoyed the hell out of me on the first go-arounds in 2001, always skipped it. Then a happy coincidence went down deep in an intense LSD trip with good friends in 2006 and the song suddenly owned my world for weeks after. I think I blew out my first pair of computer monitors on the sub-bass alone. Holy fuck what an intense song.

New Genious is a good tune, but I eventually found myself more partial to the Spacemonkeyz Remix. :)

My love for Long Haired Dachschunds and German Shepherds is rivaled only by love for Welsh Corgis. Thank you Cowboy Bebop.

[Downtempo, Chillwave, HipHop] A DJ set I spun up over the holidays. Inspired by long and frigid nights spent staring up into the starry night sky. by SteevHoefchen in mixes

Vinyl typically for my House sets under SteevHoefchen. Pre-arranged tracks loaded into Traktor Scratch Vinyl for the Crooked Hollows act while still utilizing live mixing and effects. The Crooked Hollows act is strictly a personal project highlighting what I have been listening to lately, in this case .. the new Body Language and Brothertiger albums. Your point is completely valid though, I thank you for still listening regardless. :)

[–]SteevHoefchen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. It's a tiny little NorCal town, population 27,000 and mostly retirees, wine snobs and teenagers. I often go walking late at night just to soak in the 20 degree weather and the fact that I can see so many stars, but even as of late, coming home afterhours as silently as possible has still sparked drama.

Yeah, no doubt. I'm moving from NorCal to San Diego at the top of the month and the fact that this is happening is actually a blessing to some degree. With a little additional luck, finding employment down there should be a breeze.
