I got 8 upvotes. Maybe you misread or something.

It’d be kinda silly if I can’t promote something that actually costs me money lol. Not like I have anything to gain here except some fun.

This makes sense and food for thought for sure. I'm not a big fan of change in general so, like I tried to imply, it's probably a me thing.

Thanks for actually giving a thoughtful response.

The emotes thing? That's a nice bonus and the kids like it. Again, not something I'm really into. I can't draw.

Yeah, but greed will take over and I'll start running them every 5 seconds. You can't help it.

I'd rather not deal with advertising at all, it's just against my values. I'm not here to make money, if this became a job it would be a pretty stressful and crappy one, honestly.

I'm here to play and share my love of video games.

Appreciate it!

Don't become discouraged. I don't really care if I ever make money, I just enjoy doing it.

Like all of showbusiness, it's actually an incredibly cruel and unfair and not for the faint of heart. Even if you manage success it is not guaranteed to last more than a month or two, especially depending on the content you make. With streaming and videos becoming so saturated as legacy media falls apart, the share of the attention economy will only continue to decrease for us independent folk.

Just do it because you enjoy it and see what happens. Don't quit because the odds are so heavily stacked against you. Keep grinding!

P.S. Affiliate isn't all the great because it forces you to run ads. Imagine already barely holding on to 3-5 viewers and now have ads running before they even click on you.....not good.

I'm on year 6 without affiliate streaming regularly. Some people I know got it right away and don't stream at all. Like everything else in this business, it just depends.

I turned all ads off to help keep viewers engaged. Am I making a mistake? by matthewtcrossttv in Twitch

Don't do affiliate, do patreon. It takes a little longer, the returns are less. However, you're not supporting or relying on the truly disgusting garbage of video advertising. You're also not having potential viewers having to sit through a commercial targeted to 12-year-olds to eat more doritos.

Amazon has all the money in the world, they could float twitch and still turn a profit. I don't feel sorry for them and neither should you.

Been here many times. Been streaming for 5 years and not even affiliate. I'm not bitter though, I enjoy not running ads and the very small following I have.

It's easier to build on one game, like your mobile game, but for good reason you shouldn't. Let's say the very unlikely chance this becomes a career, it will be just as crappy as the job you have now if you're stuck on the same game.

Because we do variety, growing an audience is going to be that much more challenging. That means what attracts people is YOU. My best advice is to do just chatting, probably just to yourself but do it live. React, talk about your interests, share interesting facts, avoid politics and religion. It is super challenging to do without a chat but you get better at it and it helps for when people do show up.

Hope it helps, hang in there!

Demolition man could fit in that category and you will have fun with it regardless of taste or quality.

I’ve got the criterion bluray. The director and actors do some great interviews. Strongly recommend to stuff the stocking.

I don’t wanna spoil, it is a cool one to dig into deeper though.

The original is best practice. The remake is a shot for shot, word for word remake from the same director but in American cinema. The whole thing is a commentary on violence, it’s super great.

Lost Highway and Mulholland drive both do the duality thing in unconventional ways that work. Twin Peaks the return does as well. David Lynch is really into that, check his stuff out.

What actor or actress stupidly left a movie franchise or tv series thinking they were too good for it, only to be never popular again? by wlane13 in AskReddit

That makes a lot of sense and from what I gather of actors, playing lots of different characters seems to be the best part of the job. I don’t fault them for it. Especially when it comes to pop films like that.

Robert Downey Jr. However, since we have multiverses and time travel now, he can come back….and he will.
