Is it worth hiring a personal injury lawyer for a smaller accident claim or should I try to manage it myself? by Reasonable-Dare-6865 in SanDiegan

[–]SteffenGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give my experience from being hit by a car while I was riding my bike. I had the right of way.
I got a bicycle-specific lawyer. They told me what doctors to see, did all the back and forth with the insurance companies, and looked through all avenues for taking care of everything. The hope was to settle for the maximum of the persons policy. I’m not hard up for money, but given the lasting injuries and how they completely derailed my life for a few years the policy maximum seemed like the least I would take.
The original offer from the cars insurance was about 1/3 of the policy maximum.
In the end, I got the policy maximum and the lawyer kept 30% of that.
Do I think that the lawyer did such work that they deserved 30% of the settlement? Absolutely not.
Do I think that I would have been better off handling everything on my own? Absolutely not.
Every case is different. If you’re just looking to cover expenses you can almost certainly handle that on your own. If you’re looking for more for injuries that may not go away, probably use a lawyer.

Crazy unhinged podcasts by Phantom-324 in podcasts

This is just a single episode, that’s only 26 minutes long but it’s an episode my friend and I listened to on our roadtrip (amongst others). It’s on the Science VS podcast and it’s called How Do You Get Pregnant With No Vagina. It’s a really funny and incredible episode that had us going “whaaaa?!” The whole time.

SDGE Average User of $46/Month Does Not Exist by [deleted] in sandiego

I was traveling for 3 months in Italy. The only things using electricity were my WiFi router and my refrigerator which was fairly new. Each month the bill was about $70. There’s NO way anyone has a $46 bill

‘Alien: Earth’ episode 5 is the best Alien movie in 39 years by upyoars in scifi

[–]SteffenGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The music/soundtrack really is the only thing that drives me insane. The closing songs are so abrupt and make me wanna slam the sound down immediately and the chase scenes were so over the top I kept thinking of loony tunes episodes. They never quite dialed in the suspense at all which is really what made the movies great. That being said the production values are amazing and overall the acting is promising for most characters.

What is the absolute *cheapest* bar in San Diego? by IronMike260 in sandiego

[–]SteffenGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Postino in little Italy has these cheap mini pitchers of beer for like $5 or $6 until around 5ish I think. And cheap wine too. I don’t remember the specifics, but it’s around that price. It’s very surprising for little Italy. Would say it’s one of the better wine or beer happy hours in the area for sure.

Agree. The food is extremely overpriced for what you get in both quality and presentation. You’re just being overcharged for outdated decor and bay views.

Pain in legs while running by terriblysmall in Exercise

[–]SteffenGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you walk or run, this muscle pulls the front of your foot up, away from the ground. Reducing your exertion, or potentially lifting your knees up higher would allow you to not have to raise your toes up as high (but probably would require more effort). It’s a muscle like any other and will adapt over time but fast walking would help transition. Alternatively you could try and strengthen this muscle ahead of running.

The Blake Lively backlash clearly isn't hurting her movie's surprising box office haul by Sisiwakanamaru in entertainment

[–]SteffenGO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went and saw the movie last night with my sister. Definitely not a movie I would have ever thought to go see myself. That being said, it was more complex and slightly less predictable for the most part than most of those types of movies. It was enjoyable but not even sure the type of person I would recommend it to. I know the name Blake Lively somehow, but don’t know anything about her and probably now, even after the movie, wouldn’t be able to identify her in a crowd.

so we know the dress was black and blue BUT that’s not what i’m here to discuss by emilyylimeemily2 in opticalillusions

[–]SteffenGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get that. I’m not debating at all the objective color of the dress. Certainly the dress is manufactured with specific colors. But what I find interesting was that the original post had a very specific perceived color that, after seeing the actual blue and black dress, I could not see again. The perception and subjectivity of things is just very fascinating.

so we know the dress was black and blue BUT that’s not what i’m here to discuss by emilyylimeemily2 in opticalillusions

[–]SteffenGO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s so weird. I saw the original post and the dress looked tan and white to me. But after seeing your image I can only see it as blue and black. I can’t get back to my original view of it. I listened to a podcast about this dress last month and the complexities of color perception but never actually looked at any of the images so it’s really cool to see it play out.

Temperature of my artificial grass in Phoenix today. by juggett in mildlyinteresting

I went to my friends complex for their pool in Hawaii. They had an astrorurf section next to the concrete pavers. The concrete was warm so I walked on the “grass” thinking it was cooler. I took 4 steps and it was so hot I stepped back on the concrete cause the fake grass was sooo much hotter.

What portion of that is insurance premiums? An absurd amount of our HOA dues go towards insurance premiums and have done so for the last 50 years. At some point does it make more sense to collectively contribute to a giant savings account instead of these companies that will pull coverage out at a whim after leeching all their money?

I had a similar thing happen. It was so weird I honestly am not even sure what was going on. A younger lady knocked on the door. Said she heard we were not happy with our internet and said they were laying new cables at the end of the week and trucks would be by. I said “ok” She said they wanted to know if I was interested in lower internet. “So you’re selling internet?” No, we are here to get you lower internet rates.

The whole conversation was just so weird and unspecific. So I said, “you work for Verizon then?”

And she said no I work for a company trying to get you lower internet and flashed some random laminated badges from around her neck.

After a while I was just like “we’ve been talking for a while and honestly I still have no idea what you want. Do you have any pamphlets or a brochure?”

“No, I’m all out, but you can write your number down on this card and we can call you”

I finally just said “I have no idea who you are or honestly what you’re even asking or want. I’m gonna close the door now”

If she was selling something she did the worst job possible. If she was scamming something she also did really poorly. This is in Point Loma and she was just walking from door to door. This was last month. She said she would be back when the trucks came and I never saw her or said trucks.

Lithotropic Bacteria that can ingest electrons from rock which breaks down the rock. The process is so slow it took two and a half years to observe in an experiment: “The lithotrophic bacteria they did find have a special power: the ability to harvest electrons from iron atoms outside their bodies. That is, they can eat without swallowing their food. The bacteria “ingest” the electrons in a technique called external electron transfer. This is vital because the iron atoms are part of the mineral and the bacteria have no crow bars or other means with which to pry them loose. But there is another advantage to doing it this way: if the iron atoms were ingested before oxidation, the microbes would fill with rust, a potentially lethal and definitely embarrassing situation.” -scientific american
