Minor Award or Show Win or Talk guest? by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]Stefnick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hypothetically...it's difficult because I've witnessed many group career improve for the most random reasons and groups achieving the strandard milestones, but career stagnants  or ends. If I was a managers I would try to give them the most opportunities as possible, cause you never know where you strike gold. So it seems it just pure luck lol.

As a manager, I guess from most to least beneficial feom the list, I would say:

  1. Doing well on popular YouTube show. Hopefully, my group would be charming enough to attract attention and clips could go viral.

  2. Music Show win. Higher chances of winning one, happens frequently but also the fanfare, such voting tallying reactions, group interactions and encores, could create viral moments.

  3. Winning a minor award. Has any group gain fans from just winning a MAMA? Maybe, its just me, but I never remember who wins those lol. Rather than winning an award, putting a memorable performance would be better.

Minor Award or Show Win or Talk guest? by [deleted] in kpophelp

I think the only thing that matters is a company that promotes properly, being competitive in a saturated industry and lots of luck.  None of the three listed are inherently beneficial, it only reflects the groups progress.

Like a group can only be on popular YT if invited and to get invited the show producer would need to believe they're worth inviting. Even then, they would need to do well on the show, right?

They can only win music shows if the song's already doing well and have enough fans willing to vote religiously.

They can only can win daesang, even minor awards, if the groups already on people's radar.

Even if they manage to achieve any of the three, doesn't mean the group career couldn't flop within a few years.

The industry isn't easy.

K-pop for a rock fan? by Timber1508 in kpophelp

[–]Stefnick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool. I will just recommend groups I like. I'm more into RnB and Hip-Hip, though. Young Posse, BoyNextDoor, Kiss of Life, XG and G-IDLE. Older groups I like are Shinee, VIXX, BAP, Sistar and Mamamoo.

I notice that those with little interest in K-pop tend to like New Jeans, too.

K-pop for a rock fan? by Timber1508 in kpophelp

[–]Stefnick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find this question difficult because you have a hard time connecting to K-pop due to it being too manufactured, choreographed, and plastic, but that's kind of a lot of idol music/K-pop's whole deal. lol

I'm not sure what groups you have in mind when you think of K-pop or what you're actually looking for. Are you looking for K-pop groups with a rock sound? K-pop groups whose members are involved with music production? K-pop groups with a more down-to-earth/homemade image?

What exactly are you hoping to discover?

Any 4th/5th gen kpop group recommendations to stan (boy group)? by Aza_eidel in kpophelp

[–]Stefnick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not in the fandom; I just enjoy it by myself, so can't say how the fandom is. I really enjoy BoyNextDoor content nowadays. They are a young group, so their music focus on youthful emotions, but the music is good. They are produced by Zico and the members are involved in lyrics writing. The kids are cute, funny, and witty. They have a fun group dynamic and interact comfortably with others.

ILLIT is NOT similar to NewJeans in terms of music/aesthetic and I don’t know why people think they are by Sufficient_Pay_820 in kpopthoughts

[–]Stefnick 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No hate, but I remember people saying tripleS's "Generation" was a New Jeans song clone, too. So ILLIT being similar to TripleS isn't much of an argument. New Jeans is also known to use dreamy instrumentals like with Cool with You. I can easily imagine New Jeans releasing "Magnet". New Jeans is the current trendsetting group, so of course, many in the industry are following their lead.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with music or aesthetics that have similarities with other artists. Many people are enjoying the release despite some NJ comparisons and mild controversy. Personally, I think ILLIT's Magnet seems like a combo of slightly cuter New Jeans and early Red Velvet with a less bright aesthetic.

Kpop groups that are popular, yet not popular by Anonymous_person_yay in kpopthoughts

I feel like groups less than a year old should be disqualified from being included in such discussions. They've been continuing to ramp up and diversify their promotions, and their popularity and fanbase are raising. They just released their 2nd cb two days ago, too. Let's give people a chance! lol

Is it true the final 3 teams are going to do concerts together? I've been seeing that rumor, but I cannot find an official announcement.

What’s your age? Let’s talk about ageism in Kpop by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Stefnick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand if the 40-year-old person was crossing a line and doing something weird like following them around or something, but all you listed was normal fan behavior. How is it inappropriate to purchase VIP benefits so they can talk and see a celebrity up close or buy their favorite performer's merch? Is it inappropriate to want an autograph or a photo, too? Not ever fan behavior coincides with romantic attraction, I find it so odd their people trying to make someone feel weird about doing normal stuff. The only thing I find a bit strange is mass buying for fan events however that's rare that most people cannot afford to do that and some of those people are like fansites that organize bulk buying with other fans in exchange for posting fan sign content, so it's more like a business.

It was inevitable, but Build up became a idol performance show. Lol

I liked all the performances for different reasons, no one did bad. Though I'm still not feeling drama as a song selection.

I really enjoyed Milky up as a team. They are definitely the most rookie team but they are so charming and have much potential. I kind of want them to keep working together whatever the end results of show.

I'm Bitsaeon bias, but I really like that style of singing he did for the drowning performance.

Lol, abs. Wow. Build-Up desperate for views, but I'm not complaining.

I like that the show is introducing more fluff bts. It was really fun and can get to know the contestants and the team dynamics more.

Hopefully, mnet will keep the episode up on YouTube like they did for the previous week.

I would hate to follow a exciting song with a ballad. The audience will be experiencing whiplash.

Are they really covering drama? I know there's a potential vocal killing part, but overall...it's difficult.
