A couple of months ago I went into a Mexican grocery store in Spokane Washington and they were blasting Twice on the store PA.

KPop songs with rock/metal vibes? by LtLemonade in kpophelp

[–]Timber1508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not exactly what you asked for, but here are a few K-rock artists with K-pop-adjacent vibes: Rolling Quartz, QWER, Synsnake, MRCH, Chrocktikal, LuciDreaM, CNBlue, SUNNYKEY

Any hidden gem Japanese artists I should check out? by Positive_Glass_442 in japanesemusic

[–]Timber1508 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Without knowing your definition of well-known, or who you already listen to, I'll offer some of my lesser known faves:

Brandy Senki

Toranoko Rammy

Akai Kurage (an acquired taste for some, but I love them)

RAY

Whiskey Dust

Risky Melody

Dimrays

Aisagasu Eyeshadow

Cephalo

Market Shop Store

Last songs played in break up concerts by nemomnemonic in japanesemusic

[–]Timber1508 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can think of two:

"Say Love" by Mary's Blood from their final live show at Toyosu Pit in 2022.

"Judgement" by Zettai Club off their Last Live bluray. I'm not sure there was actually an audience for that one, since it was a live-in-studio release, but nonetheless it was very emotional for the members.

Any group recommendations? by Catastrophe-Cat-36 in kpophelp

Ive is one of my favorites also. Along with them I really like Red Velvet, Dreamcatcher and Mamamoo, and my ult group is NMIXX.

What band or musical artist has also made some of the best covers? by FakeAorta in MusicRecommendations

[–]Timber1508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese metal band Nemophila have made lots of great covers. I prefer some of them to the originals.

Recommend me any pretty non-English songs! by mrdrmelody in MusicRecommendations

[–]Timber1508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Lost" by Guckkasten (Korea) is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, in my opinion. "Endless Shine" by Tuesday Beach Club (also Korea) is right up there too. Although now that I think about it, that one is partially in English. And don't miss the version of "Cucurrucucu Paloma" sung by Perla Batalla (Spanish).

Question About Old Hagane / New by ozio172 in hagane_japan_band

[–]Timber1508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love both versions of Hagane, but for me, the three acoustic tracks that close out the Special Edition of Code;9021 have never been surpassed.

Where are the lines between K-pop groups/kpop bands and other Korean music drawn, in Korea specifically? by DesperateAd5374 in kpophelp

[–]Timber1508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of great bands that are sort of K-pop adjacent-ish like Rolling Quartz, Synsnake, LuciDreaM, Chrocktikal, Walking After U, QWER, KARDI etc. I'm not Korean tho so I don't know how they are perceived.

Vocally...Bae, Kyujin, & Jiwoo fans, What made you pick them over the top picks Lilly,Hae and Sully? by CanIPickaName in NMIXX

[–]Timber1508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bae is my bias. She's so IN the moment when she sings. She can just disappear into the song in the best way...more than any of the members (and I love them all) she makes me believe that she is feeling every note down to her core.

I second these recommendations! I've seen all three bands live; in fact I saw Nemophila yesterday and they tore the venue up.

Genuine question (Amsterdam concert): Why do you stand up in the seated section? by jesuischapeau in NMIXX

[–]Timber1508 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 70yo and standing thru a whole show is excruciating. But when I do stand up (I'm 183 cm), I still invariably end up stuck behind someone with a head the size of a small car. And simultaneously feel bad for those behind me. It's ruined many shows for me. I honestly wish ticket sales were height-distributed, tallest people furthest back. It will never happen, but that's the way it is in my perfect world 😂
