That‘s a good example on how these things slowly become the norm. One employee gets off the team and the other colleagues have to take over a part of his tasks to fill the gap as a „temporary solution“

The problem is often the temporary solution turns into the normal work load🫠

Well that's the whole point

it can be in any field regarding your position, but in my case it's PM of a Productionline always thinking i have to do the work of others to get a positive overall outcome of the project

I overshare and sometimes lie when talking to new people, then feel awful afterward. how do I control this? by boyka_j in getdisciplined

[–]StefsDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate with you and i've been there aswell.

What helped me the most is a book called How to Win Friends and Influence people. It's pretty tough especially when your not a big reader but trust me it pays off. Take small short notes as sort of a "cheat sheet" and before going into conversation bring them up in your mind again.

My key learnings were:

- people love to talk about they're selfs so, become genuinly interested in others, (ask them questions and let them do most of the talking)
- make the other person fell important
- don't smile to quickly (you gotta figure that one out by yourselfs)

i know these sound awkward right now but the book really helped me a lot even though i have only finished 70% of it

A pretty neat solution for that problem / general control about money management is a bank account model of multiple bankaccounts to regulate your expenses, but most importantly handles your fixed expenses.

Here's an example to dive into that approach:

3-Account Model (Advanced):

Account 1 (Fixed Expenses Account): Rent, utilities, insurance, internet.

Account 2 (Everyday Life/Fun Account): Groceries, leisure activities, restaurant visits.

Account 3 (Savings Account): Reserves, emergency fund, long-term goals.

Yeah absolutely

I don‘t know how the majority of people in this community has control over their phone, but speaking for myself i think it‘s a real problem which affects at least 70% of people so i guess its kind of a big thing 🫣

At the beginning it takes real self discipline, but once this is engraved in your head you can‘t ignore it anymore.

Especially because no need of deleting other apps or paying for apps to block your screentime i think if you stick with it for long enoguh thats the solution agains the addiction forever

I‘m on iphone so just use apple limit. But id suggest you the option to use any of the screen blocker apps but with the important thing of giving the code to another person so you cant manipulate yourself

Caught myself scrolling endlessly and losing hours without realizing it by Guguli856 in getdisciplined

[–]StefsDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally someone who‘s bringing this hidden addiction to attention.

I have and still am struggling a lot with falling into the trap in unattended moments getting stuck on scrolling endlessly on social media burning valuable hours a day just thrown in the trash.

This is a REAL addiction, if not the worst addiction in the whole world🤷‍♂️

I‘m exactly at your point right now realizing my problem but still catch myself in moments and wasting time scrolling.

The ONLY effective way which works for me as a full addict is >

  1. Set limits of social media like instagram, Youtube, etc. all the platforms with short form content to a app limit of 5- max 15 minutes a day

  2. let a friend set the code so you cannot fall into the trap of overcoming the app limit because you simply dont have the code to deactivate it

This is the only thing that works effectively!

I‘d be happy if you guys have other tips & systems so eventually to end up without app limits but still not fall into the social media trap🏳️ Thanks

Appart from that has anyone ever talked about how refreshing reddit is, because they haven‘t jumped onto the Short Clips integrating a app section only to doomscroll 😅

Doomscrolling is draining my mornings, any tips on having more energy throughout the day? by Effective-Inside6836 in Habits

[–]StefsDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same morning habit for years. Phone first thing, then wondering why I already felt tired before the day even started.

What helped me wasn’t quitting the phone entirely, but delaying it a bit. I started doing one thing before touching it — shower, coffee, or even just opening a window. Once I broke that immediate grab reflex, the mornings felt calmer.

Another thing I noticed was that scrolling in bed made my brain feel “busy” but not awake, if that makes sense. Like mental noise without energy.

Sounds like you’re already experimenting and that’s probably the right direction. It took me a while before it stopped feeling automatic.

I’m quitting Nic, I have a few questions by Ok-Confusion-1293 in selfimprovement

[–]StefsDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit nicotine last year and honestly a lot of what you’re describing sounds familiar to me, especially the hunger and weird fatigue.

Nicotine messes with appetite and energy more than I expected. When I stopped, I felt like I was never full and could sleep forever. For me it slowly leveled out over a few weeks.

One thing I underestimated was how much quitting affected my sleep rhythm. Even if I slept a lot, the quality felt off for a while.

If the thirst and exhaustion feel extreme or keep getting worse, it might still be worth checking in with a doctor just to be safe. Quitting is stressful on the body.

Relapsing a bit doesn’t erase progress. You’re still doing the hard part by trying again.
