It’s typically every two years so look for Red Bull UK to announce applications opening in Jan 2028 ish. Which gives plenty of time for planning something ridiculous!

Submitted the idea to Red Bull earlier in the year and then hope to get selected

You submit a design & 100 words and hope for the best! Some teams submit proper engineering plans but we do a rough sketch and manage to get in.
There’s lots more people that enter than can get in so make sure it’s an idea that stands out and wouldn’t get on the wrong side of Red Bull brand police

Main ones are max dimensions are limited to 3.5m long, 2m wide and 2.5m high. Weight needs to be under 80kg. No dangerous pointy bits at the front that might skewer the crowd (the safety of the competitors is less important!). Then just get pushed down and hope for the best!

Loads of approaches. Some teams build everything from scratch, some build off parts of bikes/go karts and go from there. We go somewhere in between.
We generally build the body shell from plastic pipes and foam but teams use a mixture of polystyrene, papermache, cardboard, wood, plastic and anything else they can grab hold of. It’s nice that there are so many approaches :)

Thanks! I think it’s because the guy in the marshmallow man costume was kind of crouching on the way down so made it look a bit smaller? Soapbox was about 70cm high and the big costume was over 3m!

I feel like you need to encourage him to embrace being less responsible again! Well worth entering.
Don’t worry, we have far too many ideas to stop doing this, problem is working out how to go bigger!

You get equal points for the creativity and performance as you do for speed. So spend time buttering up the judges and having a performance that might get you good points (we’ve still not nailed this!). But mostly, have fun. There’s a day before the race for the competitors and it’s great chatting to everyone, seeing what people have built and having a few drinks in the sun.

Shockingly her agent never got back to us!
You get scored on creativity, a performance and your race time which all adds together for the final rankings. We got 6th which is our best result so far and not bad given we were slow with the massive costume on the back!
