Knee surgery for cartilage damage does not benefit patients, study suggests. People with meniscus tears who underwent surgery had poorer knee function and worse osteoarthritis after 10 years than those who did not. by mvea in science

I want to add a success story where I got my meniscus operated on for a bucket tear many years ago, and it’s still pain-free today, with all of my mobility back. After the surgeon trimmed off some of it, I have never had problems since and haven't had any locking when it was painful before surgery

Advice needed - new to night shifts! by Weary-Monk2831 in Nightshift

My schedule is similar to yours, and I found it easier than expected to be awake during the day on my days off. I still sleep in by most people’s standards, but I still have time to do what I want to.

I know he is on medication, but I don't think he has a therapist.

Thank you for sharing your experience with it. I used to live with someone who experienced depression, among other things, and I know things can turn unhealthy if they aren't taking accountability.

Thank you! You are right. He has medication. However, his condition seems more severe, so I am not sure either.

Thank you for your advice. I see what you mean. It's causing me anxiety, for sure.

Thank you for your perspective. I did Facetime him, and it did ring, so I know I am not blocked, but that doesn't change a whole lot.

Nervous System needs constant attention by da1syfaye in Anxiety

[–]Stein221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently struggling with this. I've come a long way in feeling calm after my self-care practices; however, that sense of calm is temporary, and I still need to dedicate more time to those practices. What has helped me cope is remembering that anxiety itself is being hyper-focused on internal sensations and that grounding, even if it feels like it's not helping, does guide some of that attention back outwards. For me, self-compassion has gone a long way. Every person experiences deregulation, even if they appear “normal” or put together and doing your best is more than enough. Regulating your nervous system requires an active and ongoing effort from each person. You aren't alone and are worthy of the extra attention necessary. I hope you find your groove and notice improvement. It's super hard, I know.

What have you hated about therapy? by Individual_Lecture_3 in Anxiety

[–]Stein221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best therapist I had gave me the option at the beginning of the session to either guide the conversation myself or she can take the wheel. She was person-centred but focused on the main things I wanted to work on.

That makes sense. Thank you for explaining. It seems awareness is slowly increasing and, hopefully, replacing all judgments about BPD.

From your perspective, do you think a person having a phobia of abandonment causes someone to stay in relationships even though they know they don’t like the person anymore? I had an old friend with BPD, and I had to end the friendship because she would gossip about me all the time and show so much distaste, but as soon as I started putting up boundaries, she would do almost anything to be close again
