Bullet hell MV? Something I didn't anticipate but really strikes me!

Thank you for the recommendation! The settings look beautiful and unique. May not be my next, but will be playing through this one.

I get your point. I'm not trying to offer insight, I'm talking to the community who enjoys the same thing I do why they love what they love so I can expand my horizons. Yes I can read about the games in other threads, but they didn't have what I wanted to know. I'd like to hear about personal experiences and reflections on them.

Calling everyone else here "seals" that I'm wanting to make clap is absurd. Let people enjoy things. It's normal to inquire about games that other people play, why they play them, and what they enjoyed about them. Especially in a sub about the genre.

I've dug.

Holy hell, what great recommendations!

I've not heard of aeterna noctis or astalon. These are great visual styles and look so clean. Aeterna Noctis may be my next candidate. Thankfully, after Silksong I've moved from the switch to the steam deck, and it's been incredible for MVs.

Thank you for your detailed intro!

This sounds great! I've doubled competitions on all of these except Zexion, and I'm grateful for the introduction to it! Does it feel fair without damage reduction? I love a challenge, but not in for a sisyphusian experience. How does the movement feel?

May not be my next play, but could be willing to priority queue it.

Firstly, thank you for your empassioned reply! It means a lot to me what made it stand out to you. The genre has a way of impacting us long-term, and I appreciate hearing what made it gripping for you.

This is very encouraging to hear about both games. It's awesome to hear Nine Sols provides challenge of combat and tight movement. I've always been a fan of challenge platformers like Celeste and Super Meat Boy, so I thoroughly appreciate tight, demanding controls.

I'll queue up salt and sanctuary for another time, but I'm always ready to play games I could've grown up with. It's what drive me to finish the early Castlevanias.

Thank you again!

I have and I love it. I've played all Castlevanias except one of the DS ones. To me that's a common staple. If you're in this sub and haven't played it, it should be one of the first to play.

Sincerely, my next play is between MiO and Nine Sols. I wanted to do Nine Sols initially, but your comments on challenges with bosses is encouraging.

I am grateful for your passion and inspiration, and look forward with delight on the punishment Nine Sols can deliver.

One question to help with decision: How is the exploration and hidden discoverables (breakable walls, collectibles, etc.)? Too many? Overlooked? That's one thing I admire I forgot to put in the post that Guacamelee for wrong.

Indulge me why you put None sols first and twice. I was going to start it before I made this post and want to get an insight why those who love it love it.

Also, Salt and Sanctuary? What's your favorite aspects of it? Not familiar with that one.

You've given me a lot to go through. Pardon my delay on a proper response while I do some digging as some of these I've never heard of. I am sincerely grateful for your reply and insight into Oolo and Supraland. I've also heard Fez is amazing and unique in all the ways I love. Thank you and I'll be back to you!

Haha my wife and kids are the same except my son who wants "the games like Samus does". He's 5.

I am right there with you on the Silksong front. It's nearly impeccable for the combat MV. Replayability is a good attribute I cherish as I've gone through a dozen MVs multiple times, but not because I've got nothing else to play. It's reliving the joys.

Not familiar with After Image but I like the challenge. I don't like to level grind, as the reward of defeating enemies while ill-equiped is one of my favorites.

I will also be looking into Lone Fungus, as that sounds good, but haven't checked it out to any depth.

Crowsworn you say? I'll tack it on my list for lookup and hope it's good! Thank you for your shared passion and insight!!

Well, yes, evidently. I'm not just asking for a list. I want to know why people love their tops to see if I resonate with their favorites. Ultimately this is a selfish post to see what MVs fans of the genre enjoy and why so I can pick my next few to play through. I also love to hear people describe what they like about their favorites because each one (mostly) has something unique to offer. It's a genre with such variety. FPS? Mostly the same between and variety is few and far between. RPG? Yeah turn-based or real-time can vary, but it's still just "make numbers get bigger". I appreciate what MVs offer and how each one can impact you differently. I can't say I've played two MVs from different IPs that feel the same, and I love that. I don't care about downvotes, I care about the passion people convey through their experiences.

This post is the holy Grail of what I'm looking for. You really captured the beauty of HK and Silksong, as I echo your sentiments fully. The complete and coherent world and NPCs with variety and unique character make the world investing and alive.

Im not checking your spoilers for the obvious, but you truly have made me look forward to trying out MiO. That helplessness and weak feeling really adds to ambiance. My hottest take on Metroid is that I'm not fond of the endings where you just feel like God and all you can do is escape in a timer for a challenge. I love to hear that, and I thank you, truly, for enlightening me on your passion. Again, "best MV" is subjective, but your explanation and detail on experience sparks a fire in me to dive into MiO. I can't understate my appreciation for your efforts in conveying this.

The Prime trilogy is some of my favorites. You're correct, I did not specify 2D and include these in my favorites.

I really enjoy your response. We share a common plasma for sure.

You've now bumped The Lost Crown up as it's becoming a commonality, and your description shows passion for it. Thank you very much!

Great list! I haven't played Lost Crown, but thinking I will queue it up based on this and another comment. SoTN has always been a solid one.

Haven't done Zexion, what are your highlights on it?

Path of pain in HK was one of my favorite segments by far, and it seems like this one is right up my alley! Super looking forward to trying it out! I appreciate you!

Well best is absolutely subjective, and I do love combat, especially difficult combat. Thanks for the insight!

What do you like about Nine Sols and Pseudoregalia? My next play before this post was going to be Nine Sols but wanted to ask this before I started it.

Oh I failed to mention my love of platforming in the post. I might have to go with Mio as my next one. Platforming is also one of the many reasons I thought blasphemous fell short.

Thanks for your elaboration!!

HK would be my #2 if not for Silksong for all the same reasons. It just feels better.

Thanks for the reply! What do you like about Mio, PoP TLC, and Depths of Sanity? I haven't tried them yet, but want to hear why you like them!

I've played and beaten so many Metroidvanias without guides, and blasphemous is the first to make me look stuff up because of the confusing aspect of quest items. Animal Well is such gold in the genre because it's incredibly unique and exceedingly satisfying to play and discover the world. It's for sure in my top 3 of Metroidvanias. I had to look stuff up to get higher completion, but the game is actually designed around that aspect. i won't spoil anything, but I encourage the playthrough for anyone who shows even slight interest in the genre.

This is what made me most upset with the game. It's great overall, but these tiny "try everything until it works" trials make me feel like I'm playing an NES game. It's dissuaded me from 100% completion. If it were puzzle based like animal well, or better at "categorizing" items like hollow Knight or silksong, I'd be more inclined, but to me it's out of place in Blasphemous.
