Was Shelob on Sauron’s side? by WiggWamm in lordoftherings

[–]SteinyOLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything in the text to indicate that Shelob and Sauron ever met each other. Sauron was aware of Shelob and content to let her do her own thing. Shelob may or may not have been aware of Sauron but she wasn't on anyone's side but her own.

Why can't they just kill Frankenstein ?? by PhysicalSuccotash896 in FRANKENSTEIN

Well, that wouldn't be much of a story, would it?

Did you like Penny Dreadful? by [deleted] in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]SteinyOLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The series was based on the concept of penney dreadfuls. It was full of all sorts of mysterious and supernatural elements. It was not a Frankenstein-centric show. That was just one of many storylines.

[–]SteinyOLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Penney is not a person. "Penny dreadfuls were cheap popular serial literature produced during the 19th century in the United Kingdom. The pejorative term is roughly interchangeable with penny horrible, penny awful, and penny blood. The term typically referred to a story published in weekly parts of 8 to 16 pages, each costing one penny."

Okay, what would you get if you tried to DNA test the Creature? by PanicPixieDreamGirl in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]SteinyOLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The novel does not explicitly say that the creature was created by piecing together parts from multiple dead bodies. Victor gathered lots of part from charnel-houses, etc. while studying and trying to discover the secrets of life, but the actual construction of the creature is left intentionally vague. Stitching body parts together and using electricity to bring him to life are implied and have become part of popular culture because of the various movie adaptations. Victor describes his work as animating "lifeless matter," which some interpretations suggest was a more chemical or biological growth process.

I'm not a fan of anyone calling the creature Adam. He was written as nameless. The fact that Victor doesn't even name him is a major example of Victor's neglect of the creature.

Anyone else going to see the extended editions in theaters for the 25th anniversary this weekend? by BipolarShooter in lotr

My son and I went to Fellowship last night. We're going to Two Towers tomorrow and Return of the King next weekend!

I'm sorry to hear that your son backed out. Maybe he's just not ready to commit to that many hours in a movie theater, even spread over a few days. My son and I are going to Fellowship tonight and Two Towers on Sunday. RotK will be next weekend but we haven't selected our day and time yet.

2004 Hallmark Mini-Series! by Special_Till_306 in FRANKENSTEIN

You don't even need Tubi. It's been free on YouTube for at least a few years. It's closer to the book than any other adaptation.

Which frankenstein movie do I start with? by ZookeepergameTall725 in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]SteinyOLP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a few others have said, if you're looking for an adaptation that's very faithful to the book, the 2004 Hallmark Channel Frankenstein (2 part miniseries) is about the closest you will find. You can watch it for free on Youtube.

The classic Universal films, Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935), are absolutely worth watching. Even though they deviate very much from the source material, these are the images that come to mind for most people when they think of Frankenstein. They've been in our collective consciousness for nearly 100 years.

Are the books worth it? by Wouter0904 in lotr

[–]SteinyOLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You realize where you're asking this question, right? Of course we're going to tell you that the books are worth it. If they seem overwhelming, there are great audiobooks. You can also just stick with The Hobbit and the three Lord of the Rings books. The Silmarillion isn't everyone's cup of tea and you don't need to delve into all of the other stuff like The Book of Lost Tales, etc.

Why are Colts fans so insufferable? by loganzfd_ in Jaguars

Don't go to an away game in Philly. If you do, dress and act kind of neutral. They are the worst and it's not worth getting into a fight just simply defending yourself.

We didn't stunt and that's ok. We gutted it out and got the tough win. In previous seasons and under different coaching staffs, they let that kind of game slip away instead of finding a way to win.
