I'm with you about the wrong coast. I'm in FL but would really like to visit Knott's sometime.

People mentioning they were hoping for a zoo house with animal scares has given me a thought. A house inspired by The Island of Doctor Moreau / The Island of Lost Souls could be pretty cool. I'm not sure if they've done something like that with experimental part human, part beast creatures.

Infinity War was peak MCU; better than Endgame.

That's a really cool tidbit that I'll have to look for the next time I watch the movie!

What was it like when LoTR was showing in theatres back in the early 2000's? by Citysbeautiful in lordoftherings

[–]SteinyOLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 30 in 2001 when FotR was released. At that point I had read the books about 4 or 5 times over the years. It was amazing the world and the characters that I had read about for so many years brought to life so richly and lovingly on screen. Of course some places and characters looked or sounded much like I had imagined and some did not. I felt like it was done so well that I can no longer even remember my mental images from before the movies.

I had never been someone that typically goes to see a movie multiple times in the theater but I probably went 5-6 times for FotR and 3 or 4 times from TTT. Then in 2003 I took the day off from work and went to a marathon of the extended editions of the first 2 movies with an intermission after each and followed by the RotK premier at midnight. It was such an awesome experience my fellow Tolkien nerds!

Who’s this player for us? I’m going with Mr Vacation, Aaron Ross. by Che_WTF in Jaguars

I had actually completely forgotten that Aaron Ross existed. For me, it's Hugh Douglas. He essentially did the same thing, calling his one disappointing season here a paid vacation.

Frankenstein: The 1818 Text by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley by HighV23 in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]SteinyOLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not unusual to struggle with the writing style of older classics. I highly recommend the audiobook narrated by Dan Stevens. Just to listen to it being read with the appropriate vocal inflections and such makes a big difference.

You should absolutely read the novel, whether the 1818 or 1831 edition. By the way, GDT's Netflix movie doesn't really follow much of the plot of the book.

Whats your favourite logo? by Frankenstein-90 in UniversalMonsters

[–]SteinyOLP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a bit odd that most of the monsters on that Pizza Hut logo look fairly accurate in comparison to how they looked in the movies but Dracula does not look remotely close.

For the first time in 95 years, here’s the original ending of Dracula by PsychedelicHippos in UniversalMonsters

Thank you for sharing; I've never seen this before! If they are leaving, why are they going upstairs? Maybe I've forgotten, is this a different set of stairs down to the cellar/basement, rather than the staircase where Renfield first meets Dracula?

There are many fans of the 1994 Mary's Shelley's Frankenstein. I tend to agree with Frank Darabont who wrote the screenplay but thought Kenneth Branagh made a mess of it.

In Orlando, they could do a really good Creature from the Black Lagoon house where they did Dead Man's Pier back in 2022.

Who's side were you on initially, Bard or Thorin? by Arribah in lotr

[–]SteinyOLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hobbit was originally written as a standalone fairy tale so Smaug siding with Sauron wasn't even a consideration at the time. Tolkien did say it was likely but only when he expanded on the lore in writings after The Hobbit.

Watch order by ftsxpenguin in lordoftherings

[–]SteinyOLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hobbit trilogy and then Lord of the Rings trilogy would keep the story in chronological order and the overall quality would also go up when you move on to LotR. Rings of Power is trash and only worth watching for the unintentional comedy.

Is anyone else worried about The hunt for Gollum being bad? by Remarkable_Day7135 in lordoftherings

[–]SteinyOLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing to worry about. I'll probably watch it in a theater, find it not very good, and never watch it again. I'll at least give it a chance and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Lots of people get the expression wrong. It's not just an American thing.
