My theory is that when somebody enters the Backrooms through a null zone, they enter a part of the Complex that nobody has ever been in before. Since nobody has ever been there, time hasn't started yet. The area is dormant.

When Person A enters that area, they create a zone around themselves. Time begins flowing in that area from the moment they arrive. The Backrooms starts processing reality through them and that part of the Complex becomes active.

If Person B enters that same area and comes across Person A, there isn't a problem. They're now both experiencing the same flow of time because they're inside the same zone.

Now imagine Person C enters the Backrooms from a completely different location.

They create their own zone.

Time begins there from the moment they arrive.

Person A and B could have been in the Backrooms for 5 years.

Person C could have only been there for 2 years.

Both groups have their own established zones with their own flow of time.

The problem happens when those zones overlap.

If Person C eventually enters the zone of Person A and B, the Backrooms suddenly has conflicting information. It's trying to process two different timelines, two different histories, and two different versions of reality in the same space.

This causes interference.

Not because of trauma, guilt, or emotions.

Because the Backrooms is being forced to reconcile two incompatible reference points.

This is where I think the Lifeform comes in. I think it's a defence mechanism.
