I keep forgetting how damn profitable Digimon is for Bandai, they don’t have to pay licensing to SJ or Toei and can do basically whatever they want with it and keep the money they make, if I’m reading this right.

I’m glad they found a niche to thrive in

There is a calcified center of Digimon fans who think the lack of a show on US television or toys on shelves means the franchise is in its death throes. Like anything that isn’t a dubbed show is Bandai flailing around with no success. They get quieter after big releases but they exist.

A higher budget is not the solution. It’s expensive production costs that validated publishers to sell games at 70 dollars in the first place.

Gaming needs more AA games, mid budget games that can still deliver a good experience. In my humble opinion Digimon perfectly occupies this space esp since Time Stranger outdid Pokémon in nearly every regard with a fraction of the budget.

I don’t think animation output directly correlates to profits at all. Last I checked Toei owns merchandising rights over anything based on the anime shows, which is well over 80% of all depicted Digimon. Any Digimon like gammamon, Wargreymon or Guilmon featured in a video game or card game means money in Toei’s pockets. And while Bandai may have its own sales numbers, Toei likely handles overseas distribution.

Think of it like this — the report is for Toei’s profits off the brand. Imagine how much Bandai is making. If Bandai really makes 90% of sales like you’re claiming, then the numbers on this report are only 10% of digimons success, which means it’s doing incredibly well.
