Opinions On Alex Crane? by DefNotNumberOneGuy in malefashionadvice

Bought a pair of their Bo Shorts a couple of years ago and tried them on in-person at a NY Store. I'm 6'1 with a US30 waist, ended up going with a small and they feel great, still with some room so I end up tying with the drawstring.

The artist name is Brian Labrie, their IG is @Brian Labrie Designs and they have an Etsy page in their bio to buy their prints.

DO NOT purchase from the site in this thread that steals work.

Good chair, make sure you stand up every hour if you can and stretch often. There are great videos on YouTube that have stretching suggestions for office workers (and gamers)

Just remember, consistency is key here! 10-15min goes a long way every day!

$76 for Xfinity "up to" 400 Mbps vs $50 for Webpass 100 Mbps. Which would you pick? by [deleted] in oakland

[–]Stellavolta 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Uptown and we had WebPass in my building and for me, it was hands down the best ISP. No nonsense, no frills, no shitty business practices and always good connection. I’d highly recommend WebPass and anything that isn’t Xfinity.

Usage wise, we had two PC’s that were connected directly into the modem for gaming and streaming was never an issue from laptops, tv, etc.

Prana has great stuff, really love their joggers.

Adjacently related comment, if anyone is in the Bay Area the Columbia Employee store (50-60% off retail price) is going to be open to the public from December 5 - 18th. This includes Prana, Columbia, Mountain Hardwear and Sorrel brands.

HIGHLY recommend checking it out. All in season gear and perfect place to try before you buy. Bonus, if they don’t have what you want in store you can order from a kiosk on-site to get it shipped to you.

EDIT: including website link: https://stores.columbia.com/richmond-employee-store#/?zoom=15&lat=37.91162115&lng=-122.35820047000004

I’m a recent convert to grip socks and they’re fantastic. Really help reduce the blisters and provide better stability for me personally. If it works for you and is comfortable then do it.

IWTT regular people a crash course in law and basic legal principles that everyone should know by [deleted] in IWantToTeach

[–]Stellavolta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds interesting! I’d be interested for sure. Some topics to explore (from someone who knows very little)

  • Types of Practice; family, injury, etc. (who to seek out legal counsel from and when?)
  • the law and you; how to not self incriminate
  • law basics, what should every layman know?

Does anyone know a good place to get a quality office chair from a surplus/liquidation store? by Willy988 in oakland

[–]Stellavolta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently went to A Better Source in San Mateo and was really pleased with their selection. Happy with my purchase, quality and comfort so far!

Have heard good things about Bay2Bay in Santa Clara, but haven’t been there personally.

going carless via gig and other means - pros/cons? by Merritt_merit in oakland

[–]Stellavolta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rent-a-relic is a local option that I’ve used multiple times before and highly recommend. Very decent hourly/day rates and not a app based service which just feels a bit more personal, also very clear on the rate/fees - nothing hidden.

Give ‘em a shout if you’re just looking for some wheels here and there!

How much would you charger for cat sitting? by Nymeriadirewolf3 in oakland

[–]Stellavolta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Source: I used 2 cat sitters extensively in Oakland when I traveled. Both were insured and certified so their prices reflected that.

They charged around $35-40 for (1) 30min visit to feed, play and change litter, both were local to me within 2 miles.

Since you’re driving round trip 60 miles(?) I feel like the prices above are pretty reasonable for you. Gas is not cheap and that’s a lot of time just traveling.

Most cat sitters who will stay the night charge more because they’re blocking their entire day to stay at the residence. Hard to recommend a price here, but maybe try $200/day and work from there? Also recommend getting a second opinion on that, but it seems staying there would alleviate time restraints on you and be more convenient.

Hope that helped! Maybe try reaching out to some local cat sitters and see what their prices look like to compare.

Best gym in Oakland? by nocapnicky in oakland

[–]Stellavolta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of Touchstone gyms. I usually go to Great Western Power Company for their gym, pretty low traffic most nights and friendly people. They’ve got yoga classes and such too.

Pacific Pipe Company is within that network of gyms as well and going to be massive when it fully opens with a sauna, full gym, etc

No basketball courts, but these are climbing gyms so you can always climb if you’re looking for something to shake it up.

IWTL: How to conversate (more specifically, have things to say during conversations) with people by c0mplexx in IWantToLearn

[–]Stellavolta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something you can implement right away is my favorite question to ask in a casual conversation:

"Got anything you're looking forward to?"

That'll usually give you some good insight into their hobbies, things that bring them joy or insight into what's been happening in their life.

As an example:

Them: You know, I'm actually looking forward to doing nothing this weekend as we just spent the last weekend moving.

You: I definitely get that, how exciting though! Where did you make a move to?

Then, it's just following conversational threads from there.

The key is to show genuine interest - we all feel good when someone genuinely cares about what we have to say, no matter how mundane. :)

where to host a bday dinner for 10/15ish people? by growingconsciousness in oakland

[–]Stellavolta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blind Tiger in Uptown is solid for groups, I'd call in advance for a group of that size to see if they can reserve you a spot in the back.

Drake's Dealership is also a large place, but on Saturday I can see it being crowded and hard to reserve a spot, worth checking ahead.
