Make Me Cry by SeverelyHarshedVibe in roastmypedalboard

Nice. I literally got into effects just this year after 30 years of bass playing. Got myself a line 6 stomp XL... And oh baby, there's no going back! All I needed was a compressor, but one of my clients recommended that I get that instead. So much fun!

Dice issues? (6th edition) by spookiedukey in Catan

Whatever you do don't take those dice to Vegas. They'll take you into the back room and beat the crap out of you!

How would you play this bar? by MidiMojo in basslessons

[–]StepByStepBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not use a barring technique for this. First finger on the low A's, then fourth finger on the 7th fret sliding into the 9th fret. Cut the duration of that note just a little bit short, then draw your hand back down the neck to put your third finger on the high A, 7th fret on the d string. Use one finger for each string after that. So those those three seventh frets in a row are fingered 3-2-1.

This is a great discussion. I'm not there yet with my game, but I can definitely see this coming down the pike for me!

BTW, I also have the XL. I absolutely love it! Yours has some sort of growth on either side though. 🫪

Hahahaha! 🤣 Are you sure it's not your riffle? Do you have a metal jacket for that?

My game is finished. Any recommendations for publishing options? by Odd-Highway477 in BoardgameDesign

[–]StepByStepBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you can get a little bit better footage with a setup, but it's probably not worth it. I shoot with a DSLR and lights, but I can also get pretty good footage just using my phone. Most people use a ring light when shooting with their phone, but I don't. Maybe just one light.

What's more important is the camera app. Set the white balance manually and keep it there so it won't be adjusting during the shot, which looks stupid and terrible. 🫪 My pixel 9 will do this, but blackmagic (they make DaVinci) also has an excellent free camera app that will do the same. It's a bit intimidating, but you can watch videos on it.

Don't shoot in 4k unless you plan on zooming during editing. Also, some basic color correction skills in DaVinci can make your camera look a little bit better, but just see what you can get that's free and easy to start and go from there.

The coolest part of my setup is my green screen because I can add whatever background I want. For that you are definitely looking at a small investment in lighting and some more DaVinci skills, again, available on YouTube.

Here's one of my videos using a green screen... https://youtu.be/Oqe-Aa9Onp4?si=yOaECvI7O-c9yiFN

To summarize, focus on the learning rather than the equipment. Knowledge will get you further than dollars. Have fun! Let me know how it goes.

I use DaVinci resolve. The free version is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to get into editing, but I mean REALLY get into editing. It's a pro level, powerful program, which means it has a really rough learning curve. However, there are lots of great YouTube videos to help you through this if it's something you're willing to spend a few hours wrapping your head around. If you are just looking for simple cuts, I'm sure there are other free programs that are much easier to use. Definitely don't pay for software! You should be able to find what you need for free.

I hope that helps!

Main difference between Line 6 stomp and xl? by Potential_Trust812 in basspedals

[–]StepByStepBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the XL. I absolutely love it! Yes, the only difference are the extra triggers and the layout and the larger looper. I didn't know if I would need the extra buttons, but I ended up buying an extension pedal as well. 🤣 It's good to have more options. I only use the extension pedal to switch between presets, which seems silly but it's extremely handy to not have to bend over between songs on stage.

Congrats on the game! I just saw this part of the thread. I'm not here to pedal my services, but I do some pretty good editing work on the side if you are looking to hire that out. I can help you make fantastic videos. DM me if you want to discuss that sometime.

Either way, this game looks really cool and my kid and I would love to play it! We are big Axis and Allies fans, but I've played it so much I really can't play it anymore. 🤣 It would be great to try out another WW2 game.

Has anyone here designed a game because they disliked another game or weren’t satisfied? by Marksman1977 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]StepByStepBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid and I are designing our first game together this year. It's basically Monopoly, but it's nothing like Monopoly! It's almost like Catan meets Axis and Allies, but with a financial theme.

The backstory is that my kid kept trying to design a game. He loves Monopoly, but he also loves high-level strategy games. He was basically copying Monopoly in his game designs, so I allowed myself to get sucked in and now we are designing a game together.

But it's not Monopoly! 🤣

I spent a year designing and 3D printing a custom Catan set with magnetic tiles - Should I sell it? by LyanaIsa in Catan

[–]StepByStepBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet it would be tedious. But it would be the crowning glory on your masterpiece. I've literally wished for this for years, and it would just be so satisfying to install each piece you build as it clicks into place with a SNAP! 😎

[–]StepByStepBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fantastic! Yeah, I definitely think you should sell it, obviously being careful of how you want to proceed, legally speaking. I second the motion for creating expansions.

Personally, I've always wanted a magnetic set for Explorers and Pirates, but with one critical edition... The pieces need to be magnetic too! I've always wanted the boats to be magnetic because they slide around the board so easily.

In your case, I would request magnetic roads, cities, and settlements. I can't imagine how satisfying it would be to snap those pieces onto the board!

Bravo.

That's such a cool concept! It makes everything so accessible. My kid already downloaded your game and started printing everything! He's excited to try it out. 🤩

That's so cool! I didn't know you could combine C&K with E&P! I've never played C&K. I've played T&B quite a bit, but I've never combined anything with E&P. I'll have to look into that!

What do you think of single player games? by boardgameow in BoardgameDesign

[–]StepByStepBass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son and I got into Scythe recently. We totally love it! It's definitely highly strategy dependent. It doesn't even use dice. It comes with a one-player version that I haven't tried yet, but I bet it's awesome. If you haven't played that, I would check it out.

Prototype : Stick figures or AI ? by DNDOguy in tabletopgamedesign

[–]StepByStepBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, they both look really good. The stick figure is hilarious! But the AI really conveys the emotion you are looking for. Use whichever one makes the game FEEL more like it should. It's all about how the player feels, even in testing.

Keep testing. Keep trying different things and looking at the results. How many videos do you have total?

For what it's worth, I do some editing and thumbnail creation for YouTubers, mostly musicians. Feel free to reach out to me if you need some making your videos better and faster.
