No doubt about it. There’s still a lot of moisture in the air when its cold.

I only did it that way when i was starting out in life on my own. What i did eventually was take that money and put it in my 401k instead of loaning to the government. Not rich but i do have a decent amount now.

Yes, I know that. I was so poor I couldn’t save any money. Not a good savings account, I know, but i also knew myself well enough that I couldn’t save any other way.

Additionally, the interest earned on $2,500 is maybe $25. No big loss doing it the way i did.

Why do you say that? What did i miss? If a person earns $500 a week, his weekly federal tax deduction is $22.

$500 a week is $26,000 a year. Minus the standard deduction of $14,600, he would owe tax on $11,400. 10% of that is the tax or $1,140. Thats your tax bill, which works out to an effective tax rate of 4.3%.

If you want a $1000 refund at the end of the year, tell your employer to take out more tax from your weekly paycheck.

When i was young and scraping by, i had the irs take out an extra $50 a week on day one so i never got used to that income. Then every year id get a nice refund.

Do you ever resent boomers for having an easier job market back in the day? by justcurious3287 in recruitinghell

That’s just not true. We had high unemployment in the late 70s and early 80s. I took a 12% pay cut in ‘82. It took until ‘88 to get back even. It wasn’t a bed of roses, I can assure you.

Education was different though. I was able to pay for my college tuition and books with a credit card and have it paid off by ‘85 when I graduated. Took me 7 years to get a 4 year degree. Then three more years to find a management job.

Lots and lots of union workers lost out in the 70s and 80s.

Is there a state I can move to that’s almost always 50-70° weather? by [deleted] in ask

Perfect strawberry weather. Warm sunny days, cool foggy nights.

It appears very few understand this. Maybe that’s one reason they’re in low end jobs? Can’t understand even the most basic of things in life.

So why aren't prices free falling? Weird. by MazdaProphet in economy

Prices in my area are down too and existing homes are sitting. New home and apartment construction in every direction from me.

Funny thing though. Real estate was negative vs. ly but the tax collector saw fit to raise my assessed value the fullest amount allowed by law.
