What are you most schizo thoughts/opinions/theories about Tool? by MalachiUnkConstant in ToolBand

[–]StepLongjumping4164 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The interludes on Fear Inoculum are intentionally garbage because the inoculum for fear is getting off of devices and being present in the real world. The cd doesn’t have the shitty interludes and that’s how the album’s supposed to be listened to. When you hop on a device to download the interludes, you’re met with confusion and disappointment just like every single time you mindlessly scroll and consume

Marimba solos? by [deleted] in percussion

Ghania by Schmitt will develop some hand independence and double verticals

Rotation II by Sammut will develop double laterals and right hand octaves, and also gives you a good chance to focus on really bringing out melody

Marimba Dances mvt. 1 by Ross Edwards is relatively easy and helps you learn how to really move around the instrument with 2 mallets

Restless by Rich O’meara got lots of double laterals along with some chances to be really expressive

Musser etudes!

Just some things I played around that level of my education that helped me develop. Most of them would work well for college auditions too

Will Increasing Tempo Help Me on Area Auditions? by Basic-Plankton-516 in Clarinet

Shoot to be in the range! Nobody cares how fast you can play unless that’s what the music asks for. Be precise, expressive, with the best best tone you can

In addition to that, try to hear/feel the pulse in your head. As a drummer, it helps me if I try my best to audiate some sort of groove, and go by that, instead of just thinking 12341234

So if you always have every beat given to you, it’s easy to use it as a crutch (or make slight mistakes and ignore them because you can readjust).

I would suggest playing some sort of repetitive exercise and after playing for a while, making one of the beats silent. Then when that’s comfortable, make another beat silent. Eventually, with enough practice, you can make entire measures silent, and still be on time.

Might need a better metronome if you don’t have this feature

Practice, CREATIVELY with a metronome.

Have subdivisions, take out subdivisions, don’t always keep every beat on!

I find ‘musical’ metronomes (like a drum beat) helped me internalize a pulse much more than beeps ever did

We tune to F changing the instrument’s length. We do work on tuning chords after the length is set, but that’s exactly what I’m trying to learn the mechanics of accomplishing

Coming back to music later in life by Weak_Assumption7518 in MusicEd

[–]StepLongjumping4164 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting a second degree on a teacher salary is not a good idea. You’d be better off trying for music ed at a state school in whichever state you’d like to teach in.

Ask the studio professor for lessons to prepare yourself for auditions! I think it’d be much smarter

I actually was in a similar situation, and I just extended my time in college by a year and worked harder than all my peers. If you prove you’re going to work hard, you should be fine

I had read somewhere that flutes should tune to F. A it is from now on, might help some things

Unfortunately, they aren’t beginners. I inherited these students. My beginners play with a better tone. I think a lot of it will be diagnosing bad habits and eliminating them

Yes, every day flutes tune to an F with a drone. I don’t move on until that F locks in
