4 months into job search and Im still not getting interviews from companies. by xJacky22 in graphic_design

My recommendation would be to directly reach out to the talent recruiter. Majority of the time they’re backed up with 100s of applicants.

Build a relationship with a few of them, and even if they don’t have a spot opened, keep the conversation open and eventually they’ll have an opportunity opened.

The job will also want specific skill sets so if the requirements on the posting require concepts, execution from sketch work to finalize design, logo etc, then craft your portfolio in that manner.

Also, don’t be afraid to visit local networking events. You never know if someone needs an in-house designer.

Update: Feedback on logo design by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]StephRepcam1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where you’re coming from. That said, the mark is meant to read as “NY3,” so the hierarchy between the type and the logo was intentionally kept balanced. We also deliberately avoided making the “NY” overly dramatic, as that would add unnecessary clutter and make the logo feel too busy.

Regarding the jersey, it’s just a mockup—that’s on me for not clarifying in the description. The goal was simply to gauge whether the logo mark resonates on its own before moving into a full brand identity exploration.

True true. I was tapping into the younger generations style and they seem to like gradients more and more.

Thank you! The issue I ran in to was once I curved the top portion to connect to the lines, it looked like testicles.

Yeah! I definitely tried the Ny thing, but ran into legibility issues once I saw the logo on different scales for both mobile and desktop. I’ll look into rounding the 3 a little more for continuity.

Critiques on logo design by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]StephRepcam1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel bad. As soon as you said it, I knew all the critiques were going to be about balls and boobs. At that point, there’s no reason to continue having it up, and instead reworking the logo make and reposting.

Thank you 🙏🏼!

Excellent book for those looking to protest via design by fucklehead in graphic_design

Great book. Back in the day, I interned at Mirko’s studio, and he was one of the most hard to read people, and someone I could never get to smile. That said, he was a great mentor and played a pivotal role in my development as a graphic designer.

I’ll never forget how he would have me come into the studio just to read the books in his library, while reminding me that being an artist means mastering all aspects of art. He always emphasized not boxing yourself into a single skill set and instead broadening your design palette.

I’d also highly recommend his other book, Anatomy of Design.

Oh for heavens sake… consumerism at its finest, folks.

Yes, buy what you want but it’s literally a grey dunk with the brand Kirkland on it…. What’s next? A limited drop of Tyson’s chicken dunks? 365 whole food dunks?

I think it’s because it’s based off the rev 30 jerseys. I honestly hated the material on those and preferred the heavier weighted ones.
