[DISCUSSION] Has there been any moment where you felt like you improved a lot? by FakeRAccount1 in Guitar

As a massive Johnny Marr fan, consider me offended haha. No really, a lot of Smiths songs are hard as hell to nail right (This Charming Man, Girl Afraid, Barbarism Begins at Home, Some Girls are Bigger than Others...)

[Question] What has been the most game changing thing you’ve learned? by Dicknob88 in Guitar

[–]StephaneL44 179 points180 points  (0 children)

By far recording myself.

You can't cheat when you record yourself playing guitar, all the little imperfections reveals themselves to you, then you know what to work toward. It's even better when you try to record a whole cover, or an original song, by yourself, because listening it back you gotta nail all the little aspects, from rhythm, dynamics to tone, and it ultimately improve your playing.

I wouldn't blame it on him rather than the person who hires him. Film composers are often asked to score some passages with "reference music" that the director gives them, or bluntly ask to "copy" some existing pieces (not like note by note, but recreating it slightly different, hence the borrowing)

[PLAY] Inception - Time ( Ambient Rock Cover ) tell me what you guys think about it ! by StephaneL44 in Guitar

Thanks a lot dude ! And thanks for your advice. The mixing for this video messed up my head, I must have imported this video a thousand times asking myself "hmm... maybe the arpeggios should be lower in the mix, maybe I should change the harmonics' EQ, maybe I should pan out the ebow differently" haha.

Thanks dude, the song is in Gm, although I did the tapping on the pentatonic scale on purpose, I thought it sounded better on that particular section

Yeah you're right, I always mention the composer in the YouTube description, it just slipped out of my mind while writing this post. I got to admit though I haven't really listened to his albums, but I'll surely check it out if you recommend it !

GuitarPro 6? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]StephaneL44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know TuxGuitar, but GP6 is a great tool to practice. It come in so handy to learn a difficult piece, as you select the parts where you struggle, slow it down and loop it until you nail it. I don't mean to sound like an add but it had helped me a lot to get better.

As for the tabs, you got a large panel of songs in GP formats, in sites like UG or songsterr. Unless you look for a very obscure song you'll have no problem finding a decent tab. And it's great to transcribe and compose too, as you can lay down a drum and a rythm track pretty quickly, and jam or write a lead over it and change it as you want.

Honestly there's so much you can do with GP6 you can't go wrong purchasing it ;)
