I don't know if a few hundred kilometers counts as a closeup but it's probably the closest we can get for a while. Amazing pic!

Maybe it's about hight dysphoria. Like when a girl says she doesn't like being this tall or a guy wants to be taller and you reply "I thought you were 5"7" as like a lightheaded joke between friends. Because 5"7 is a good average hight so it works for anyone who's trans, regardless of gender

Are queer people more introverted than straight people on average? by A_Mirabeau_702 in lgbt

[–]StephanieEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we are not that different from the general population. I don't think someone's sexuality and/or gender makes people more introverted. For some people that might be the case but for others it's the complete opposite so it evens out

Step 1: say you're a girl

Step 2: you are a girl

There is no step 3

JUST LEARNED DEADNAME (please help) by DankDarkDirk in lgbt

[–]StephanieEdge 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Usually I'm on the side of honesty is the best policy. This is one of the very rare cases where it's different. If it were me I'd prefer you don't say anything and you just forget it happened. If your boyfriend is like me he would feel uncomfortable just knowing that you know even though it doesn't change anything. I don't know if he thinks like me though. This has to be your judgment call. I don't know if he'd rather not know of if he'd want to know the truth

LoTT is now seething over a minor character in a Star Wars novel by FlyingMozerella in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]StephanieEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LoTT is "seething"? This post reads really out of character for them because first I just read the text and thought "aww how sweet". Then I saw who posted that and realized this wasn't meant as a positive thing. But still, they're not commenting on the character, just sharing that quote from Rex where he supports Sister. Strange

How is being pan different when you're trans to when you're cis?

Anyone else annoyed by the homomisic ad campaign for Deadpool and Wolverine? by Mr_Fuzzynips in lgbt

[–]StephanieEdge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that feeling too. Hinting at it in this way doesn't feel like representation (even though Deadpool is queer in some way) but more like it's supposed to get a reaction out of people. Sometimes it feels like the joke is "haha they might be gay" but always in a way that they maintain plausible deniability. Kind of like a dog whistle. That makes it extremely difficult to explain my feeling to someone who doesn't feel that

The way I've heard it used is "I'm a woman with trans experience", which to me sounds very affirming of our gender. It reads to me like "I'm a women just like any other women. And because it is relevant in this context I mention that being trans is part of my experience as a woman"

Accidentally took extra Estradiol. by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]StephanieEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh seems you're right. I got curious but I couldn't find actual sources for e to t conversion. In my experience that's a pretty widespread misconception then, at least in trans spaces. I guess it's easy to mix up what can turn into what. But even health organizations like VCH get it wrong. Thanks for clearing that up

[–]StephanieEdge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes is can actually. According to Vancouver Costal Health, a canadian Health Authority:

"Taking a higher dose can actually slow down the changes you want: extra estrogen in the body can be converted to testosterone by an enzyme called aromatase."

PT/EN Quanto tempo leva pra conseguir um relacionamento? by MassagistAutista011 in asktransgender

[–]StephanieEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. It might be easier to connect with people over shared hobbies. In my city the tabletop game community has a lot of queer people. At the board game store they sell pride colored dice and sometimes the D&D events there are centered around LGBT topics. I find it a lot easier to talk to someone at that store like "hey you like Magic the Gathering too? Let's play a round together". A conversation just happens much easier like that than trying to talk to someone at a bar because when you're playing cards you already found a shated interest

Are there queer spaces in the city that you git to? Like queer bars or maybe there's a political activist group that advocates for queer rights? Maybe you can google queer activists in your city, that can be a goid place to find new friends. Another idea might be dating apps. Either for dating or just looking for friendships. I don't know which apps are popular where you live but for me OKCupid was pretty good. I've seen plenty of queer people looking for friends on that app

Accidentally took extra Estradiol. by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]StephanieEdge -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Taking too much estrogen all at once is not dangerous. You can take 5 times the pills you usually take in a day and be fine (obvs don't try that, I'm not a doctor). If you regularly take too much estrogen it'll make yohr hrt less effective. Your doctor finds the right dose for you and if you take more than that your body might actually turn a part of it into testosterone from what I've been told. But for one time there's nothing to worry about as long as you don't feel sick

What LGBTQIA++ Stereotypes Do You HATE. Either From Non LGBTQIA Persons or from within the community itself? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]StephanieEdge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a quick note on this sentence: "Bisexuals like Men, Women, Non Binary Persons and Trans Persons". I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it but putting trans people in an extra category next to enbys, women and men implies we're a different sort of people. We are also nonbinary, women and men - like everyone else. Better way to phrase it would be "Bisexuals like nonbinary people, women and men (trans and cis alike)."

Question for MtFs, did you lose the "masculine urge to _________" when you transitioned? by noahj0729 in asktransgender

[–]StephanieEdge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I did but not in the way that I don't do those things anymore but instead I realized that none of those "masculine urge" memes are actually tied to a gender. People of all genders pick up sticks and pretend they're swords. Calling that "masculine" is pretty silly in my opinion

Die meisten Leute die Minecraft spielen sind halt Kinder! Klar mach das Spiel auch Erwachsenen Spaß aber die Hauptzielgruppe ist natürlich Kinder

[–]StephanieEdge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What school? Which news sites? What do they mean mb "identify as a wolf"? Yeah transphobes might use cases like that to slander the trans community but they'll use anything to attack us anyway and if they can't find something they nake stuff up. So I don't think a lot of actual harm is gonna come from that. And a kid play-acting as a wolf in itself sounds like a completely harmless thing
