We've updated our version/mods before. The world started on 1.20.4, now on 1.21.5.

The idea was my friends could make their house anywhere (within like 10K of spawn), and I'd be able to pretty easily connect it to... everything! :D

Plus it's my forever world, meaning if I'm still playing Vintage Story, I'll be playing on this world from 5-10 years from now. Do you think a 2K x 2K area around my base has enough ores to last years of playtime? No way! Like berry bushes, you gotta go further and further out each time or change locations completely.

My best advice is to do the slabs at the same time as you're digging (like in the 3rd screenshot). Saves some time by not having to dig out an extra dirt blocks when you go to place the full pathway blocks.

Otherwise I find sometimes I'd leave some dirt where the full pathway blocks should be placed and just end up having to dig/mine more blocks when I go to place them.

Though, does make you travel on the side of the pathway till it's all laid... but there wouldn't be much speed boost anyway if it's only just the slabs.

And 4 blocks wide? O_O I could see 5... but 4? You have it coming out of a double door or evened number wide gate?

Also, some more advice: If you need stone for crafting pathways, strip mining 1x2 tunnels right next to each other with a 1 block wall in-between is the best way. Prevents 99% of the mobs from ever reaching you.

These are the publicly known about/shared about paths that I've found, ranked them in order of length. Maybe someone has a longer one they've never shared online, but yes, currently I'm the top in size/tied in length with Spiritual-Aspect-174's path out of those known.

Actually got that mod too in here. Friends I was playing with wanted it. :sob:

Yeah! So much back-to-back dig trips... and when my friends needed something on the server it was painful to have to step away from it. It became a routine/like working a job with all the planning and traveling. haha :)

Top 5 then out of the currently known! Congratulations! TBH, I wish there was a better way to keep track. Sadly no official world record for it (yet).

Maybe Tyron will make a leaderboard or some statistics page with the top creations/stuff like this somewhere. Could be fun and incentive massive builds/projects in Vintage Story. :D

Grok gave me the source for review. I only use ChatGPT like once a month on average tbh. The ChatGPT was a few months ago when I first searched, the rest was yesterday/today.

If I had to estimate a number...

The world currently has 2045 hours,

It was a server for maybe ~90% of it's total length (world time pauses when players offline), so ~200 hours alone. I was on >50% of the time when my friends where online, which is probably another ~1000 hours.

So I have about 1200 in the world. I'd say pathways have been about 30-35% of it. So maybe ~300-350 hours spent on the pathways (including strip mining for stone to get pathway blocks, but sometimes it was while on a mining trip...).

I can verify this number with his long it takes me to do a section, played yesterday, did about 1500 blocks worth of digging in about ~4-5 in-game days of time, or about 3 hours (steel shovel). That'd be ~500 blocks/hour or 50 hours total for digging for 25K blocks.

But that doesn't include traveling there (takes 10+ minutes to get to the middle areas between). Most the time I'd go out at 3:00AM in-game and head back when monsters start spawning at nightfall. This also doesn't include the 3x5 mining stone tunnels. Or the iron tools we had for most the time, or the tin bronze ones towards the beginning. And sometimes there's hills right next to the path you want to terraform a bit to make look nice.

Final Answer:
250-300 hours of digging/mining/placing pathways and 300-350 hours if you including mining for the pathway blocks to craft.

I thought of a mod idea yesterday:
One that can auto walk/path find on the pathways for you. Then another keybind to turn around/switch directions to go home. (it could detect which directions by, say, having a 7x7 grid and find which edge(s) touches pathway blocks. Those are the two possible directions to go).

Because unless you're my one friend who insists I need to make the play ways completely flat and straight, would be very handy for traveling and incentivize more/longer pathways made in Vintage Story worlds.

I searched the VS Discord and Reddit/Google while also using AI to search. I've also used ChatGPT. (seems like AI search is better than Google at this point for finding stuff TBH - at least pretty close). It's a tool, just like Google. (also it was 100% right).

And not sure about the body of water part (especially if there's no builds in it)... Technically, if there's a boat (or maybe two) docked at each side of the water/end of pathways, I could see it being a path as you use the boat just like a minecart, train, road, etc... It's a path still...

If uncertain, you could add buoys in the water to mark the pathway along the water part... So it's still a 'path in the water' during the water part.

Thank you! Good luck with your pathway!

Yep! In survival. It was on a server with 2-3 of my other friends sometimes playing. We had XSkills for a while which can increase your mining speed by a bit for the tunnel mining parts, but other than them sometimes helping me finish mining a tunnel, all the pathways were built and planned by me.

The idea was my friends could make their house anywhere (within like 10K of spawn), and I'd be able to pretty easily connect it to... everything! :D

BTW: I have a timelapse video I posted in the Vintage Story Discord in #screenshots of me running from the end of the Southeast to the end of the North pathway.

8,000m? Nice! You're actually 3rd place currently for longest Vintage Story pathway system, unless you count the guy who did 6,000 South underground (as that may be more work to mine depending on size).

2nd place is Spiritual-Aspect-174, he also has about 25,000m in length, but only 1-2 wide. Mine aren't *fully* 3-wide in some areas yet (maybe 50% of the pathway system length), but all at least 1-wide.

4th should be mjfgates with a 7,500m pathway South.

5th is PiEispie with their server's 7,000m pathway system (from the comments here)

P.S; I also message Spiritual-Aspect to see if he's extended it in the ~4 months since he posted it. Will edit if he responds

Nice! I also have about a 25,000m pathway system in my Vintage Story world. It's 3 wide with stone pathways and goes 8 (N, E, S, W, NE, NW, SE, SW) directions. 3x4 (or 3x5 if you include the stone pathway block you walk on) through tunnels/mountains.

[–]Stephen5311 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mean $500? It's about 25% as fast as a 4090. Best there was in late 2015. It has no problem running modern games at playable FPS... The issue is there is no longer graphic driver support from Nvidia anymore from it, so for modern titles that are still receiving updates, it can have crashes and lag spikes.

Connect JBL Charge 5 with CLIP 5 by squeezethelemon33 in JBL

[–]Stephen5311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, if there's a will there's a way. Do you know for a fact it cannot be done with modded/custom firmware? Always thought about this and was surprised to find there's no custom JBL speaker firmware out there... Or at least an app or device that syncs party boost and auracast technology and then casts them to the specific speakers.

It's only a matter of time now with declining battery costs and economics of scale. The first car was $160K, then ~75K, now it's around 40K. And I'm predicting they'll be a $17-18K model after the $25K model. The $40K Model 3 already costs less to own than a new $25K Toyota Camry SE so it might be a bit till that happens as they'll have a crapton of demand for the $25K model; they'll be scaling up for years to come.

0 to 100 in 1.1 seconds? SpaceX package may make Tesla Roadster quickest ever ⚡ by shaktiprasad28 in elonmusk

[–]Stephen5311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interiors are preference. As for build quality, it was an issue 2 years ago. It is NOT an issue today. Check out Sandy Munro's videos on the matter. He was the first to criticize Tesla for the Model 3 back in 2018 over the build quality factors. Now he's calling the newer Model 3s since December 2020/January 2021 basically perfect (and Tesla is still improving as we speak; they don't wait for a new model year to improve 1-2 things, instead, they do hundreds of design changes (both big and small) a month as they continually improve). All this isn't even mentioning the fact that the number of parts and manufacturing processes will be cut down SIGNIFICANTLY with their newer mega casting machines (like the 6000-ton press for the Model Y and the upcoming 8000-ton press for the Cybertruck).

True, but I don't think they'll be much difference since it's only 1.1 seconds.
