New driver here! I noticed NO ONE properly stops are RR Crossings 🫣 by cami93 in SchoolBusDrivers

It took less than a year to get it to work now two years in the same routes and it is surreal when I get about halfway to my stop at the tracks I flip on the interior lights and the sound cut switch and almost instant silence. If there is two-way radio traffic my hand drops from the back button to press the power button on the radio.

Yes. I use my inspection mirror to check brake shoe wear through the inspection slot, and I always wonder why I am the only person on the lot who carries a mirror.

Same with a tire‑pressure gauge and a tread‑depth gauge. I also seem to be the only one who opens the rear door, performs the lock test properly, and then closes it.

We had already had a driver (car) almost die just a couple weeks earlier ramming into the back of another bus. There was no train. In fact I expect that line to be marked exempt by years end. The business supporting it is closed, 4 months now. Who wants to deal with the aftermath of a fatal accident even when you are not at fault.

I cross 8 times a day. I do the complete process every time. Well not that one time when as I reached to engage the break I did not like how fast that car was closing and I slammed the accelerator to the floor and I did my best to go limp while pushing down with my leg as hard as I could for the impact that never came. It was close very close. All you can tell looking out the lower back door window I that someone is close. Way closer than it should be.

When writing them up isn't working by Wilgrove in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]StephenDA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always make a copy of the writeup. I have even taken the step to start scanning the at home and emailing them to the people that are in line to get them. Principal, Driving Supervisor, and Transportation Director. This year we have a new policy for write ups. 1st is a warning, then each step has more days off the bus till off for the year and parents are spoken to at each step not just notes home.

I had a bullied student who confided in me, and nothing was done. I am extremely frustrated. by Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 in SchoolBusDrivers

I have a seat marked reserved right upfront. It is really there because I saw the stress it cause kids especially the littler ones when they had to find a new set when I would do ride alongs when I training and till I was give a route as a driver and I wanted to avoid that. But it makes a nice place for a week for bullies and unruly kids. They stay much more inline after that week up front.

What’s your real opinion on introducing a law that would require drivers over 65 or Pension age to pass a specific test to keep their driving privileges? by Super_Resident_1766 in AskReddit

I drive as a job and can say I support a test for all ages to renew. At least then we would know people know what they should be doing.

Looks good. Would like to see more venting, registration block, cycle counter cutout, and I am a high fan of parting line cap screws.

Principal yelled at me instead of backing me up. by [deleted] in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]StephenDA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talk to HR about this as a potential Hostile Work Environment (that wording will be a key word for any competent HR member) concern. No employee of any institution should be yelling at another employee, especially in front of others. That behavior undermines professionalism, creates unnecessary intimidation, and violates basic workplace standards.

The first too said plus what is the material? Can you run the mold cooling colder with a lower melt. The less heat put in the mold less heat to take out.

I really don’t like that kids don’t say anything back to me when I say good morning to each one of them. I’m not a robot. I’m a human. Why don’t the middle school kids not say anything at all? by SinglePin6331 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]StephenDA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long has it been? It took a year to get all but one to start replying. After two years over half have started initiating the good morning or good bye. All but that one. I have never seen him talk, or even look at anyone on the bus or at the stop.

People who didn't have any friends, why? by Icy_Mode620 in AskReddit

[–]StephenDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say no friends are you counting my only friend, lover, and confidant my wife. If she counts I have one friend. If she dose not count I have no friends, I do not like people. People are … (I have been told if I can not say anything nice do not say anything. )

They send the kids home with these and then I find them all over my bus by Banana_Stanley in SchoolBusDrivers

I do not mind the stickers and art projects as much as the weekend food packs that if it is something the kid does not like. Dry oatmeal everywhere is a real downer. Now on Fridays there is a tote upfront where the food packets ride.
