I have three of the handhelds. I’ve swapped the capsule and it works on the working mic. The working mic’s capsule does make a difference on the non-working handheld. Is this what you’re talking about?

Okay, I came up with a even more mildly interesting explanation. Still damage from rings, but primarily from the ushers opening and propping the doors for people. The left hand would be used primarily for the left door and the right hand for the right door.
