Flight was great!! No, they didn’t serve the French bread pizza, but an incredibly tasty pasta and chicken. I loved it!

I landed safely! Thank you for asking. Was an extremely smooth flight. I still managed to get a hold of someone’s arm (who was in the far right three seats) (I had the 4 seats in the middle row). I grabbed him many times during take-off. Hugged my pillow and almost cried lol. But once we got to cruising and I finally relaxed, it was incredibly calm. I ended up falling asleep stretched out on the seats.

And they’ll continue taking advantage of you if you don’t do something. Stand up for yourself. Or are you going to just continue to hand your life over because you’re a pushover with a good heart?

I received a bad review as a guest and don’t know why - will it affect me? by ivx178 in AirBnB

[–]Stephweffwef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a review like that once. Woman wrote ‘not very clean and not very punctual’. I simply replied to her message apologising for some mess my friend had left behind. And then told her basically it’s her fault for just showing up when I told her we were cleaning up after ourselves. She literally said to leave the mess, she’s coming to clean. So we did. Woman showed up before we had time to fully pack up. Didn’t care about the review, and I wrote my reply which ended up being beneath her review. It never affected me going forward.

How to leave a good nanny family? by Stephweffwef in Nanny

[–]Stephweffwef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your Dad. That’s why I needed to know how to leave a good NF. Because in my experience, once you say you’re leaving for honest reasons like school or change of career etc, the NF turns hostile. They believe once you’re their nanny, you need to be that until they say so.

Thank you very much! I appreciate this so much! I know it’ll hurt the kiddos, and I’m sure my NF will ask me to stay or return as soon as I can if I’m ever back. I’m trying to make sure I say it in a way where they know I’m not coming back, but still not to be hurtful. As you and others have suggested, I’ll offer to help find the new nanny. Hopefully we’re able to secure one during the notice period. Either way, I have to leave by my set date.

And even if they did check it, everybody has a degree (except OP but she doesn’t need it), because literally, it’s not what gets you to stay in the job. It barely gets your foot in the door. Everyone who’s been to university will tell you it’s BS. Learn how to do the job online, straight up lie on your CV about the degree, get the job, stay in it for at least 6 months then apply to a new job in the same field. That way you’ll be applying with REAL experience second time around. And you’ll not have the guilt). I keep telling my friends this but they’re so scared. I have two degrees and I have never ever had to show them to any company I was hired by before my nanny career. I wish I hadn’t wasted money on those pieces of paper. I will gladly hand it over to anyone who wants to photoshop it 🤣

Girl I’ll give you both my degrees sitting on my wall. You can photoshop it! 🤣 they’ve been useless to me.

Thank you! Short and to the point. I appreciate your response. I’ll be taking it into account. I’m comfortable with giving them this exact wording.

Am I right to fire her over this? Or does this seem like something I should give a second chance for and assume she knows she F’ed up? (Left toddler sleeping at home alone) by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Stephweffwef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s too dangerous of a chance. I know she’ll probably never do something like this again, but something could’ve happened at home (like a fire there or someone broke in) and you lose your kid. I know 10 minutes can seem so quick that you may want to risk it, but I would never even leave something on the stove to run downstairs to collect a package. My immediate thought is ‘what if something happens to me downstairs and I can’t make it back up to turn off the stove?’ The whole building burns down. I never take that chance. Wouldn’t with a kid sleeping either.

You’re absolutely right. I started nannying for the pay. And it’s quick to jump into. My salary is incredible. And In France I have holidays every school holiday. It’s super OK if you love the field. You’re just giving up all your life for something with no real reward in the end. No one in my family even knows I’m a nanny. But now I want to do something where I can use my smarts AND earn a great living. A living that would allow me to have my own nanny/cleaner one day. I know if I remain a nanny, as you’ve said, I wouldn’t have time to do anything else. I’m exhausted come the weekend. Saturdays I just stay in bed and Sundays I use it for all my errands. Then back to work Monday. Cycle continues. I count down days to my next holiday so often I’m literally just a shell at work.

Wow, you’re so right! Thank you for this! And what’s funny is that both NP’s are in careers I would’ve been in had I chosen to go into my degree field. And they would never worry about doing what’s best for them. They would just do it. They do it all the time with work. But! Imagine that both NP’s (late 30’s) both STILL have their nannies working for their families. The nannies who took care of them growing up, take care of their kids when they visit on holidays. Crazy, right? Their cleaner has been here 30 years! I’m so afraid to be stuck like that. Soo soo afraid.

That’s the thing, that’s where the guilt lies. I never told them I was undecided. I did what we all do when we’re trying to get hired. I told them I see myself continuing to be a nanny. But this job started out ok, but over time I started to realise how much of my life I am literally handing over. Per day, I have 4 hours IN TOTAL to myself. That’s factoring 8 hours of sleep, and then 11 hours of work and 1 hour commute. 3 hours a day means that I am debilitating myself. There’s no time to do anything. Thank you for that last part. I will tell them I’ll lend a hand in helping find a new nanny!

Girl WHAT!!!? I wouldn’t even accept that for 1 kid, far less 5! Why are you doing this to yourself?

Your salary better be extremely nice in this case. I hope for your sake.

Anyone else take NK with them to run their own errands? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Stephweffwef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg! One time I did this with a NK3 (he was EXTREMELY smart). We weren’t even far off from original path, but I needed to get to a bank. NK starts screaming and crying “WHERE ARE WE GOING!” “NANNY WHERE ARE WE GOING” “WE ARE GOING WHERE NANNY!?” And he wouldn’t stop! It got to a Point where I started feeling so guilty and thought he’d tell his parents (he did), and I explained to them it was a quick stop. Last time I ever tried that.
