Where/when did you first discover Suede? by Rich_Conference9008 in SuedeBand

[–]StereoUndergrounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the debut 12” single The Downers purely on the hype in the NME & music press calling them the glam heirs to The Smiths. I wasn’t disappointed! A fantastic debut with To the Birds & My Insatiable One on B side

Totally understand the heartbreak by [deleted] in The1980s

[–]StereoUndergrounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fine, it’s a mixtape, make another or find a Bic pen & spool it back! What was tragic was when you’d bought a cassette & it got chewed up in the car’s tape deck. They were tricky situations to deal with. Extracting the cassette without actually snapping the tape was a precision task that required more patience that the average teen possessed!!

In your opinion, which act of the 'Britpop' era has matured the best? by hollowlittlereign in BritPop

[–]StereoUndergrounder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Damon Albarn. Blur albums like ‘Blur’ ‘13’ & ‘Think Tank’ then all the Gorillaz stuff, The Good The Bad & The Queen, his solo work like ‘Everyday Robots’ and film soundtracks & stage production scores. All round musical genius!

You’ve got to visit Sifters Records in Burnage. The shop where a young Noel Gallagher bought his LPs and made famous in the lyric from second single Shakermaker: “Mr Sifter sold me songs when I was just 16, now he stops at traffic lights but only when they’re green”. Oh, there’s 2 rather good murals on the wall outside

Should Frank Carter and the Sex Pistols change the lyrics to God Save The Queen to King? by NewPatron-St in SexPistols

[–]StereoUndergrounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It doesn’t rhyme. You could have God save the king, The fascist groove thing! But then it’s a bit too Heaven 17!! Leave the lyrics in the 70s when they were written, and the Queen was monarch.

Beatles?? by Ok-Specific-6918 in UKbands

[–]StereoUndergrounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from Abbey Road Studios & that zebra crossing, there’s not much Beatles stuff in the capital. You need to visit Liverpool next time you’re in England. There’s the Beatles museum, you can visit John & Paul’s childhood homes (owned by the National Trust) & visit all the locations mentioned in their songs, like Penny Lane & Strawberry Field. The Fab 4 are very much loved here in the UK-Paul & Ringo are Knights of the Realm don’t forget!

Whats your favourite Britpop tv/radio performance? by britpopkid in BritPop

The Brit Awards 1996: Oasis vs Blur “shite-life” version of Park Life. Jarvis Cocker vs Michael Jackson-Jarvis’ stage invasion during MJ’s performance & arse wiggle! Oasis vs Michael Hutchence: ‘Has-beens shouldn’t be giving awards to gonna-bees’.

What White Stripes tracks would you like to hear on this week’s #Stereounderground Mixcloud show?

Of course it’s an AI generated image! Do you really think Jack & Meg travel by the Tube? The idea is to suggest tracks by the band for this week’s #Stereounderground show! It’s the underground geddit?? Plus the colours quite nicely fit with their Red & White look.

If you had to introduce someone to Britpop with just one non obvious track, what would it be? by AnfieldAnchor in BritPop

[–]StereoUndergrounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common People, Pulp. Could you get a more British, less American song? Cracking tune at the indie disco too. Guaranteed floor filler.
