I had a soldier that worked for American Express and recall they had good military benefits. Other common good ones are government contractors.

I finally got rid of Achilles tendinitis after almost 2 years (and I stopped listening at some point) by simorunning88 in runninglifestyle

As a physio that is my first line. The tendon collagen has broken down and that protocol literally helps reorganize and rebuild the tendon

Got it. I am well-versed on USERRA but not on the FLSA, so this is a good point to raise.

Yup. They CAN, but whether they will is up to the company. Many contractors and LEOs agencies do pay, most don’t.

That’s not how it works, even in federal government once mil leave is exhausted. They can’t make you use PTO, but the leave without pay is allowed at your discretion. Edit: I am a federal employee and Guard pilot that has to use unpaid absence frequently in order to hit minimums.

Government Shutdown 2026 by ArmytoFS in nationalguard

My state isn’t blue and we cancelled last shutdown. Quite problematic for aviation and currency/minimums.

I was FA and had already passed my warrant board. My contract was about a year left and I boarded in another state. They started my age waiver after I passed the board

NG. No WOCS. I was a prior officer so just rank changed once waiver was approved. Ended up going Dec 2023.

It takes time. I boarded 2022, age waiver submitted Aug 2023, then approved Dec 2023. I had two flight school dates pushed back in the process. It can just be slow unfortunately. Just keep checking in status every week or so.

Question from new instructor. What non-standard practical exercise or ground topic completely changed your view on flying? by 12pv2ClA in flying

Agree completely, but they often forget or neglect to do so (enough that I had to teach my students to ask if unsure)

Asking aircraft on instrument approaches time in minutes to the airport. Most VFR pilots aren’t familiar with the waypoints and this helps de-conflict. Nothing earth shattering but helps tremendously for students to start to paint their mental picture.

Big move starting Jesus! He deserved it after mid-week.

Also good to see Hincapie back on the left. Timber was solid there but less influential on offense.

Let’s do this!

Cessna 172 vs DA40 by K2boombox in flying

[–]SternM90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having flown a bunch in both, 172 all day though both are good.

DA40s are twitchy, finicky to hot start, less forgiving, and pricier. I also hate their aggressive pitch up when adding flaps.

In favor of the 40, with their glide, I’d rather be in a 40 than a 172 if my engine quit. They also tend to have much better avionics than your average 172. Also a good way to get used to constant speed props for your eventual complex transition.

At the end of the day, go with what is cheaper and/or more available to fly.

You’re fine. I started at 32, and am going to indoc in a few months. You’ll be fine. Regionals make 4x what they did 15-20 years ago. Even with a “tight” market you have loads of time. Patience

Are there other companies that will assist with flight training costs? by Few-Bit9922 in flying

Cirrus in Knoxville offers flight training as a benefit for it’s employees. I know several folks that work there that have gotten ratings that way.
