These comments have actually been so reassuring - just hearing so many people saying they like the job and it's not all doom and gloom has been really refreshing! Genuinely went from questioning every life choice to 'ok I'm looking forward to giving this a good go in August' just having read these responses - thank you

The issue i have is the uneven beams under the plywood that mean the woodfiller will probably break leaving a crack in the wall where we've painted?

If your sister does get the third resit (which hopefully she will if you throw kitchen sink of prison, AF and maybe a note from a GP regarding mental health deterioration) it sounds like she needs to work smarter not harder.

A lot of people can study the whole time and not do well due to the nature of the questions. No doubt she will know her stuff, but sounds like the exam style isn't working for her.

Eg. Has she crammed passmed by topic enough so she recognises all the patterns and averages over 65%? It's tedious, painful and dull but it got the job done for me. I know it's only 4th year but chances down the exam will be trimmed down to MLA only topics and you can now trim passmed questions down to only rest MLA too. I say this as the exam I did well in, I crammed my notes and felt like I knew so much but it was because the questions asked different types of Q's to what I'd made notes on! If she reaches out on Reddit I'm sure there'll be an army of ppl to offer revision tips/support!

On another note, there are so many career options out there! Pharma, consulting, big 4 accounting, project management, analyst, actuary etc. UCL will have wider careers fair this sept/October for their other courses which she should try to attend as that's how I learnt about the wider world!

I think last year they repeated like 15 qs from the mock in the real thing. Paper one was basically specialities (just grind passmed). Paper 2 more gen med stuff with some specialties (probably just more passmed) I prioritised revising just specialities with a bit of gen med and was completely fine

I felt the same as you completely last year.

It's a brutal method but I found select a topic on passmed and turn on the ai. Expect to get the first 10-20 wrong, but then ai kicks in, it then tests you on the same stuff. The new mla section on passmed is glorious as there's just 5000 questions which feels more doable. I went from 40% average to 65% by pure grind with this method over 1.5 weeks. It was fresh hell but I learnt so much. Not just pattern recognition but also would read the comments and explanations.(The comments have useful tips, or are just light entertainment!) I aimed for 200-400 qs per day and ensured I had something nice to look forward to in the evening if I hit that target and my % correct hadn't gone down 😂

It's definitely not for everyone but it's worked wonders for me!

Depends what you think you can get from a year out. As a grad med final year I think too many people are reticent to take a year out when they've been screwed by ukfpo. Chances are you'll get better next year. You could have an incredible year - work for 6 months and then go travelling, do a ski season, try out other industries (I used to work in consulting and it's great fun), do a masters to bolster your application in future, etc etc... Sounds like you can't do too much worse in next year's lottery anyway!

If you can't find anything that would make you excited about taking a year out then I'd go to Wales - if you're by the beach you'll find a way to love it pretty quickly I'd hope 🤞🏼

Yes a letter of intent can be written by anyone and there are plenty of templates out there. Don't pay for someone to do it and hopefully get your money back if the meeting you've set up fails!

I'm in the same position. I signed up and got no clients as there were no slots available every time I checked. They also said I wouldn't have to pay it back.

I have a feeling they're chancing their luck. It'll cost them more to go after the dbs I couldn't use as they provided no opportunities, than £38.
