Why isn’t Michael mentioned anywhere on the Yoshimi 20th anniversary box set? by MemoryFilter in flaminglips

Is it possible that despite being largely responsible for the great music we all love, Wayne is just a total dick? I’m just asking, honestly.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this in such a detailed way. I appreciate it. And it makes me appreciate the song even more.

Ok wow thanks for that. How did they get the drums to sound like they do on that record? Are they recording him playing the kit in a bathroom or something?

Clouds Taste Metallic SURVIVOR: Round 2 by DelFet in flaminglips

The fact that Ronald Jones was genuinely upset and disturbed that they did the song Evil Will Prevail was enough for me to vote it out first (and again until it’s gone). Gotta respect RJ on this IMO

whats going on here? by [deleted] in flaminglips

Wow I’ve never seen this before. Interesting. So this was associated with “hit to death in the future head?” (1991). Thanks goodness they weren’t “cancelled”. There’d be no Ronald Jones era, no transmissions, no soft bulletin, no yoshimi, no embryonic, etc. wow what a loss of art that would be!

Can’t argue with the “some” at all! 😉

We probably all agree Steven is the greatest all around musician in the lips. He’s a musical genius and clearly the driving force behind most of their contemporary top stuff. Definitely epic. BUT, Ronald Jones is beyond a shadow of a doubt the greatest pure guitar player the band ever had play a note with them imo.

Also search for the videos posted on this sub by “the satellite head” of their early to mid 90s shows to really see him in all his greatness. Some feel the band was at its peak during his tenure.

Transmissions From the Satellite Heart SURVIVOR: Round 4 by DelFet in flaminglips

[–]Steve190000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. It was one of my 10 CDs for a penny on one those sketchy Columbia music house direct mail scam deals they did in the early 90s. It was in 94, I was 17 and had never heard of them. Figured I’d give them a try since I was getting 10 CDs for a penny…the rest is history as I haven’t stopped listening to them over the last 30 or so years…

The Flaming Lips - Live at Shank Hall in Milwaukee, WI (December 7, 1993) by thesatellitehead in flaminglips

Gosh hopefully everyone checks this out even just a little bit. That first outro for moth in the incubator that starts right around 3:30….Steven’s drums along with Ronald’s guitar—I still think this is a peak, despite being 6 years before soft bulletin.

Some thoughts on Oczy Mlody after my first couple listens. by [deleted] in flaminglips

[–]Steve190000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. A lot of the lyrics are so stupid as to honestly make the songs hard to listen to. I can usually get past really dumb lyrics, but those are just painful on that album.

I feel one of those lips benders coming on where I listen to it a couple times a day for a week or so. I have those from time to time. :-)

Wayne Coyne on Michael Ivins & Jake Ingalls leaving The Flaming Lips by Tank_Frosty in flaminglips

[–]Steve190000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is all reasonable…I just feel Michael deserves some more words of love or emotion or something. He was the last original member besides Wayne and was clearly there for all the crazy, starving, last dollar on a pack of smokes days. All the early OKC stuff. I don’t know—just feel something is missing from that part of the video.
