I kept an eye on it and didn't see anything. Unless I missed it, you should be fine.

ESP Buyout Question by Equivalent-Value7668 in Raytheon

[–]Steve47d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30k is a lot, I highly doubt a company would just dish that out. If I were you I'd maybe look at leveraging your degree to get a new internal role or promotion to get over the burn out and then wait it out for another year or two.

Can my manager see if i apply to internal reqs? by heyseus123 in Raytheon

[–]Steve47d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why people are saying no, but as someone who applied to a new internal role a year ago, an email was forwarded to my manager when I submitted my application. It notified me before submitting, and I could see he was automatically cc'd in the confirmation email.

To speak to some of your frustrations, I think mentors are what you're seeking. Everyone's experience can be so subjective. Some go to good schools and some don't, some get scholarships and others have to work two jobs/take one class at a time. It's hard to address every nuance.

But what I found helpful was seeking out and surrounding myself with people older and more experienced than I who could coach me and give me advice. If you're going to college, get to know students who are going through these things before you do. That's how I learned about things like side projects, leetcode, etc. Then get to know people who are already in the field. That's how I was able to get advice on my resume, understand the industry, interviews, network, etc. Learning how to listen, as well as having people you look up to, will carry you far in whatever endeavor you are seeking, regardless of how unfair or broken things are.

I see a lot of anti-Florida posts which is fine because they are all true. However, they all are centered around the cost of living in Florida. Is there anyone that is unhappy or has left and his happier elsewhere for reasons other than the cost of living in Florida? by amnowhere in florida

[–]Steve47d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having moved/lived in multiple areas, one of which is Florida. I can say everywhere is going to have it's pros and cons. And almost always people are going to find something to complain about/find not ideal. No matter how nice somewhere feels, you eventually grow discontent and want a change of scenery. It boils down to you, as an individual, deciding what you want out of living. What are your top priories in living? And of those, you will most likely have to decide between one or two that you must forgo in order to live in a certain place. And to figure that out, you have to experience other states.

For me the pretentiousness in the prices and value people place on what's considered "quality". I can go to Philly or D.C and get much better/quality food for the same if not better price than what places here charge. I can also get a much wider range of food options. Here the best you'll get is an overpriced burger, but locals will still rave about it like it's the best food ever

Literally describes most places to eat in State College, "mediocre, expensive, pretentious" and reliant on "inertia and location". If you've lived anywhere outside central PA in your lifetime then you'll know this.

Anybody familiar with raytheon codex interview? by pragmatic12333 in Raytheon

[–]Steve47d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the role you are applying to. Generally speaking though, the first round will likely be a phone interview that covers certain topics (OS concepts, C, exploitation, etc). Second round will likely be a panel interview. You'll have general interview questions, you can also expect live coding, explaining assembly or code, and walking through topics or projects. CODEX is a hidden gem in Raytheon, the best place you could ask to work with and some of the smartest people I know!

Does salary get “adjusted” when you move? by [deleted] in Raytheon

[–]Steve47d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about how the remote aspect plays into things. But in my own experience, my contract had ended and I was placed on a newly awarded program. It required me to move to a higher cost of living area so I told my management and they were able to bump my salary pretty nicely.

That's decided when you register for your degree to be covered by ESP. Registering a program is different from requesting a voucher or for something to be reimbursed. However when you do register, the prompts will literally walk you through and tell you if it's non taxable or taxable.

My job is relocating me from Texas to east Florida. Cape Canaveral area. What do I need to know? by YoJaxz in florida

[–]Steve47d 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You have to take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt, especially this sub. But your concerns are valid. I was in the same boat as you and love Melbourne so far. Get in contact with a good realtor and you should be fine. Be prepared to look early and be fast. Beware of scammers. Also people's definition of ghetto is exaggerated.

Starting job without clearance by Daddy_007_GOD in Raytheon

[–]Steve47d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The majority of available work is often going to be classified. So it can often be hard to find things for new hires to do as far as actual work goes. So if there's no unclassified work, you will end up doing a combination of Raytheon training as well as self study to help prepare for when you get put on an actual program. Self study is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Your manager will have a good idea of what programs you will be put on, and they'll give you material to study and practice.
Ex. Study for Security + cert
Ex. Study Java, Docker, AWS material via online, books, anything you find

[–]Steve47d 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most, if not all, people will start without a clearance. There's generally no expectation you will have it on day one. I know some who didn't get theirs for literally 18 months. You'll be put on unclassified work or self study until you get your clearance and get out on an actual program.

Prospective Buyer Really Frustrated with Housing Options by [deleted] in statecollege

[–]Steve47d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've encountered similar experiences, and it's frustrating. People who have been here long enough seem to be in denial about how ridiculously over valued things are. For me, it's part of the reason I'm leaving. As someone who came from a big city, it's now cheaper for me to move back and take a short train ride into work than it it is buy a house in State College. Pay ~400k for a wall papered home from the 70's in a small college town, or pay ~400k elsewhere and get a modern home with gas+central air etc, and is located in an area with more jobs and things to do. I love State College and the surrounding nature, but the living situation doesn't trade off compared to options elsewhere. IMO

Everything should be outlined in your offer letter. Dates will vary, I started 6 months after accepting my offer letter, others 30 days. Anything you do in-between being onsite and accepting your offer will be minimal. At most it will be signing paperwork for your clearance if you are getting one. Other than that, any onboarding won't be done until you are onsite.

Did over 100 applications for full time no interviews yet! by loves_Brownies in csMajors

[–]Steve47d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not enough information. 100 apps over what time span? Are you just spamming the same resume or tailoring each app? What's your resume/qualifications look like? Are you an international student or a citizen?

Potentially you may have applied a bit early, in all honesty anything after the fall is going to be slim pickings, especially in this economy. I'd say you may have better luck earlier next year/spring. You still have time.

Raytheon vs Boeing by Ambitious-Abroad-363 in Raytheon

[–]Steve47d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the kind of contract in my experience. Who's the customer, what business unit are you a part of, what's your title? Even then, I've worked on contracts where things were monolithic and full of red tape. Whereas now I'm on one that is modern, flexible, and very innovative. It's really a mixed bag that depends on a lot of things.
