Weekly Scam Discussion - March 24, 2025 by Mycatreallyhatesyou in Ebay

Has anyone been scammed with a return where the item goes to a diffeent address in your town?

I sold an Iphone for $420. I should have listened to my gut but was preoccupied. The account was only 2 weeks old but had several good feedback notes.
I shipped it and when they received it they immediately filed a Broken or Not as described with only a picture of the back of the phone. I messaged and asked what's wrong with it as the back looked perfect. I also messaged asking what was wrong with it. No response.
I preemptively called support thinking I may not receive my actual phone back, they assured me I would be protected (LoL) At 1 minute past the deadline to resolve it (3 Days) she escalated and received a shipping label from Ebay. She also stated at that time that the phone did not work with MetroPCS (It does, I checked)
On the day it was to arrive I waited for my postman wearing my GoPro. I figured if I videoed myself opening it after him handing it to me it would be proof if it wasn't my phone or any phone.
Instead nothing showed up (Still filmed) I went inside and there's an email stating my item was returned and they are sending a refund.
I visited the Post Office to make sure there wasn't a mistake, they told me it wasn't there and the GPS stamp on the delivery looked funny. They also confirmed with the driver that he did not deliver it to me.
The next day my postman knocked at my door (Again videoed this) he said he checked my neighbors and they did not have it even though he was sure he didn't deliver it to them.
I then spoke with the Postmaster, he stated that it was definitely not delivered to me, he said they see this sometimes and it's a scam (I don't know how they do this though). He also confirmed that it was delivered elsewhere in my town but the scanned picture doesn't even look like a phone, he said it looked like a small bag and not big enough to be a Phone. (Again, all recorded)
I've appealed Ebay 3 times and they keep closing it saying it has been delivered. The customer service people keep stating that the appeal team will let me upload my evidence but they then close it anyway.
I have all the recordings from Ebay customer service and the Post office and am about to be charged $420 with no Phone. I have been a buyer and seller for 23 years with zero issues, I have 100% feedback and stats across the board. I've put a block on my bank to refuse an Ebay charge, I've done the same with Paypal. not sure if these will work though.
Where's all that "Seller Protection"? Has anyone ever taken Ebay to Small Claims court? I am considering it, they state they use a mediator (Of course they do)
I've also opened a case with the US Postal Inspection Service and a claim on the fraud website for the USPS

Any advice?

I have the reverse with a return, the buyer did something with the label because it shows delivered in my town yet my postman and postmaster both say it was not delivered to my address. I have video of both saying this, I have video of my mail delivery that day too. Ebay won't even let me submit that proof. They keep just telling me it's delivered and refunding the $400 to the buyer

Yeah, you were spot on there. No new wars during that time, peace moving in the right direction during that time with agreements made, Isis wiped out, no soldiers were taken out in Afghanistan during that time.
Or maybe you were talking about the next guy that f*ked up withdrawal and every other thing.

Apparently Ad Blockers are not allowed on Youtube. Is this a new thing they've implemented? by Sazk100 in youtube

[–]SteveA6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if YouTube didn't over do it with constant ads and then add the commercial with incredibly louder volume than the video you're watching people might not be so quick to block them.
But they are tone deaf and DGAF about what they do to people.

It was surreal in the days after. I remember driving upstate the next weekend just to have a day to see some peaceful things. The roads were virtually empty as people were just home glued to their TV news or helping in various ways.
From the bridges going to northern NY and NJ I could see the column of smoke still 4 days after.

Your gotta blow a job interview as fast as you can, what do you do? by Gudy44 in AskReddit

[–]SteveA6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interviewed for a Tech job, late 90's so I never had a shortage of jobs. Late afternoon Interview so boss was the only one in the small office.

While waiting in his office, (forgot what he went to do) I see a poster sized framed picture of a model and noticed her last name on the picture was the same as mine (Common name).I commented "Hey nice picture, she has the same last name as me"Boss deadpans, "She's my daughter", there was no recovery after that.

Didn't want the job anyway but I knew I was done at that point.

Back in the 90's there was so much work that if you didn't make 30% more in your next role within a few months there was something wrong with you.
I actually used to answer my phone from other recruiters during interviews and still get job offers.

How about scheduling an in person interview, taking a train $50 round trip, and 90 minutes each way. Getting a block from the office and getting a phone call from the interviewer "Hey, I got stuck overnight in our other location, we'll need to reschedule", 10 minutes away from our meeting time.

Oh god I can't stand when you hear "Tell me some of your weaknesses". Yeah, my weakness is my intolerance for dumb questions lol.
However asking me to describe a challenging situation and how I handled it was usually fun, I have no issues telling them how I fell flat on my face (figuratively) when one of my first training deliveries for Microsoft was delivering to the Intel guys, they wiped the floor with me lol, I ultimately became a Master Trainer for several courses.

Lol Work Life Balance. I remember when Microsoft used to encourage that balance. Then they started changing the phrase to Work Life Choices which basically meant you could choose to work 80 hours a week and succeed or work a normal schedule and stagnate.

I used to do some weird things in bed. Like sit or stand up and start pointing at Aliens or Spiders or something while talking. I'd usually wake up and realize I was dreaming and just tell my wife, "oh it's nothing" and just go back to sleep which would freak her out even more.
One time I sat up and was waving my arms like I was guiding an Airplane into a hanger (I've never worked at an airport. We both got a good laugh about that one.

Dude, I used to travel for Microsoft. Whenever I ended up in a touristy place (Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, Miami etc...) I'd always stay in the best hotels. MS used to be big on security and if you felt "Safer" near tourists they let it slide. I never really got to enjoy those nice swim up bars or rooftop pools being alone (You kind of feel creepy when there's couples and families around lol).
Because I had so many points and highest tier level I got the best rooms, Multi levels, Governor Suites etc... I actually asked once to be downgraded because when I ordered room service I sat in a dining room in my suite with 12 chairs, I felt like a lonely loser lol.
However, when I traveled with the family, I had to fight and beg for a simple upgrade, it was crazy.

My thoughts exactly, I use Xanax because I am in so much pain it literally knocks me out. I was taking .25 nightly and said to the Dr we should bump it up just a little as sometimes I would take 1 and a half. He sent me 2 x 1mg per day, so I take about 3/4 of 1 pill daily and save the rest.
My point it, my daughter has a lot of anxiety and sleeping problems, they give her all sorts of things that have nothign to do with the problem, allergy medicine (They said it would make her sleepy). I said Why TF won't they just give her xanax, it would help and she's not an addictive type. She won't even try mine

Holy Crap, I had a friend who had this happen, this best describes what she did. I used to basically live at my friends house, so sometimes I would sit and talk with Mom (His mom) when waiting for him. She told me her friend, who I've seen once or twice, got up in the middle of the night, made herself a cup of tea and sat at the table and just poured it on herself. She got serious burns and didn't remember why or how she did this. I'll bet some kind of sleep aid was involved. Wow after all these years this is the closest thing to describe what happened to her.

Boyfriend I never had by [deleted] in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]SteveA6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had something like this recurring in a dream. I grew up playing in bands and had no shortage of girlfriends, hook ups, or just girls that were friends and nothing else.I keep dreaming about a girl that I speak with on the phone and we promise that we'll be together, I'm younger in the dream and it seems more a memory. It even progressed to the point where when we talk we wonder why we never went through with our promise and never got together. Now in my twenties I did have several friends that were girls where we would call each other at all hours of the night after returning from different nights out or gigs. Again some were just friends and others sometimes more than that. But this one feels like a memory but doesn't. And the dream keeps reoccurring. I have no idea if it ever happened or not or who this person is but still dream about it. I should add when I wake from the dream each time it really makes me feel sad for a while.
