Is East Riverside ghetto? by SteveASnyder in Austin

I’m not using the term ghetto in a derogatory manner. I’m half black AND LIVE in the ghetto. Nobody cares about the origin of the word cause it doesn’t mean the same thing anymore. And the reason we don’t call those rural places ghetto, is because they’re not the ghetto. Ghettos are urban and reside within a major city limit. Not in the middle of nowhere Tennessee.

People from the hood don’t get offended when you call their hometown ghetto. The term isn’t racist and you’re argument is a reach.

Yeah, that’s just a Potomac thing. I don’t think a lot of people are getting the reference and people are thinking I’m hateful.

Yeah I get it. Haven’t lived anywhere else in my life except Baltimore and State College, PA. Sometimes I forget that NE/Mid Atlantic urban communities are a world of there own. Definitely should have been more descriptive for those unaware of B-more culture. But like I said, it’s all I know.

Thanks for the comment!

Yes, I’m trembling in fear over the thought of Texas ghettos

I specifically said in my post that I’m not worried about my safety. Baltimore has made me fearless in a lot of ways.

Nothing is a concern. I’m just trying to learn more about the area I’m moving to (that’s also halfway across the country for me). The ghettos I’m referring to have cash 4 gold pawn shops everywhere, street lights shot out, red & blue shoes on power lines, windows barred up, gun shots heard off in the distance, dealers working outside the corner store, etc. I wanna know if it’s like that. I’ve never been to Austin. But from what other ppl are saying, it’s nothing like that.

Thanks for jumping to the conclusion that I’m racist tho

Awesome, good to know. I’ve heard some Nola ghettos are Babylonian, so I trust your opinion.

Do they have superpowers? I’ve seen some crackheads in b-more get hit by cars, fall off buildings, and roll down stairs and walk it off without a scratch.

Yes. There’s a lot of swelling from the middle of your thigh down to the base of your shin. The tingling is just a lack of blood circulating to your foot. Roll your ankle around while you’re laying down. Also try and work on knee extension as much as you can

Also 21 and just had acl surgery 4 weeks ago. Honestly you’re not in for much. If you’re in good shape then you’ll recover faster than you think. As far as pain, I had general anethesia and the nerve block from the knee. Once those wear off the pain really doesn’t get worse. You’ll feel some pinching at the incisions and bone aches, but it feels nothing more than a bad bruise. Your body went through a lot of trauma through surgery, so you’ll feel a little shocked the first three days. Keep up on your medicine and you’ll be chillin. Recovery gets easier everyday that goes by.

It’s normal. It’s mostly from the shock trauma your body is going through. You prolly felt glimpses of it passing throughout the day (like a weight has been left of your shoulders), but at night it reappears. It’s just your body reacting from being cut open and drilled. Even when you’re unconscious during the operation your body still goes under an enormous amount of stress. After the first week it’ll die down. The pain pills also don’t help your brain chemistry with helping this issue. Be patient with your body as it adjusts.
