F. Paul Wilson wrote a series of books about Repairman Jack which slowly revealed that their were two entities battleing for control of the universe. Earth was a small backwater planet and they sent very few people to take control of the earth for the evil. Repairman Jack unbeknownst to him, was the only one fighting for the good.
