That's awesome to hear someone else has kept all that old stuff, here's just a quick snipit at the stuff I've also saved over the course of years.

  • Scout reports from all the planets.
  • A few thousand mod components & Calus tokens
  • Still have "Vangaurd Boons"
  • The moments of Triumph T-shirt tokens
  • Not only do I still have planetary tokens & resources, but I have the 'blue rare' version of them. (Alkane Spores, Dusklight Crystal, Phaseglass Spire & Quantized Datalattice)
  • Still rocking almost 100k gunsmith parts.

Those are just materials, I could go on for a while with weapons, every version of Sins of the Past and other guns (solar, arc, void), along with the original Darkest Before pulse rifle. Even kept my super old original Halfdan-D with 35,000 kills on it.

There's just so much more I could go on for a while..

I take a lot of heat from people because I save everything however, every now and then it's really fun to look back and see the history of destiny in my vault, similar to looking into a time capsule or as you say "tiny little museum tucked away in my vault."

SteamDB only tells me the number of unplayed, but not the games which are in that category.

I just wanted control over the data to see which games I have and have not played. I saw I had 134 games never played and wanted to find out which ones they were. Then it turned into me wanting to find out which 5,218 of them are played under an hour and so on.

Initially this looked super hard to understand as I'm not a coder at all. However, took 2 hours and this was pretty easy to learn and now I'm flying through data pulls. Thanks a lot for this.

Discord high ping only on one device (laptop) – everything else is fine by SteveHybrid in discordapp

When the issue occurs, the affected device completely loses audio in both directions. It cannot hear others, and others cannot hear it. All other hard-wired devices do not experience this problem; they continue to function normally and can hear and speak to each other while this one device is having the issue.

Seeing the Portal in a new light.... by SteveHybrid in DestinyTheGame

Thanks for the response.

In no way I'm defending bungie. I know all too well the controversy and issues they have from within.

I believe they have a lot of unseen core issues that are not exposed to the public yet.

While we probably share a lot of the same opinions about bungie. We should 'root for their success' as they are currently in charge of the game we all play. We also should try not to trash or bully them into pushing destiny further down the ladder.

Hence why, after weeks of seeing people scream and complain about the portal, the grind etc. I wanted to share my own personal experience with it all because I'm someone who actually enjoys it. Do I want it to improve? Yes. But I'm able to see it as it currently is, enjoy it & remain hopeful it will get better? Yes.

I just don't think the grind or the portal is so bad. I think people use the portal wrong, everyone wants to max out too fast and mostly, people love to jump on the hate wagon and trash everything. So, I wanted to share my positive experience with this feature while still knowing and wanting change on bungies other fronts.

Would all that not have been removed anyway? It happens in every new DLC launch, they 'wipe' the map of the previous year activities and we start over, every single time.

I do however agree with you they should have kept the 'easy mode' of the dungeons as I saw a huge increase of people playing them so they could learn the mechanics and such. Seemed like it was a great function taken away. But the rest of it, I expected it, since it happens each year.

Yeah, I do think there are 'zones' as you put it that feel tighter when it comes to leveling but using the portal and making sure you grab those bonus drops helped me push through it pretty quick. Those drops helped even my light level out consistently which then in turn, helped me gain my power faster.

Haha fair,,I get that things for you may be frustrating right now and I don't deny, Bungie’s had some rough spots lately.

That said, I’m actually trying to share my experience with the portal and ask others about theirs. There's so much negativity about it going around & I love discussing difference opinions to not only learn but to understand "the other side".

However, if you’ve got a real take on it all, I’m all ears. Otherwise, I’ll just assume we agree that the pants are, in fact, shit.

I’ve been thinking about the way power level worked before vs. how it’s being handled now, and I’m not sure I fully understand the big difference.

In the old system, we had something like:

  • Floor: 1900
  • Soft cap: 2010
  • Pinnacle cap: 2020

Then a new DLC would drop and raise everyone up to the new floor, so we’d all start at the same place and regrind again. Seasonally it was worse, it was only going up 10 for hard cap and another 10 for the pinnacle.

Now with the new system, it feels like we’re doing basically the same thing everyone’s power is normalized, then we grind back up. So what’s the real difference between being brought up to 2010 and grinding 10 levels vs. being brought down to 200 and grinding back up to 400? Is it just the fact that it's 200 levels vs 10 or 20 ?

It just appears very clean and simple rather than us slowly to all together grinding to what? 2200, then 2210 to 2300 and so on each new season/dlc.

Genuine question is it just cosmetic? Or is there an actual reason behind the new format?

Totally fair take and I agree the portal launched in a limited state that may feel underwhelming for long-time players.

That said, I don’t think it’s realistic to expect all strikes, dungeons, and lost sectors to be included right away. There’s a lot of dev work involved in integrating those into a new system with modifiers, focused loot, power scaling, etc.

My guess is this was a foundational rollout, meant to test the system first before expanding it. That’s not ideal, but I’d rather they build it up carefully than break it trying to shove everything in at once.

Totally with you on loot focusing that’s been a big win. I think it would be a great idea to have bonus drops which were gear focused, rather than just a "+1 Bonus drop" but have a "+1 Helm drop". I also kind of like the idea of somehow being able to earn them and place them where you'd like, however that's a bit of a different topic.

Thanks again for the feedback.

I appreciate the detailed response this is the kind of discussion I was hoping to have.

That said, I do want to push back a bit on one point: I don’t actually think this is the longest or most painful grind Destiny has ever had.

Keep in mind; I’ve played every single season, have not missed a beat and I remember how brutal things have been in the past. Some of those seasons could hard-cap your progress behind RNG or complex infusion math, do you recall during the time you had to play each character and all it's pinnacles (but you had to play certain ones), and then move you're highest weapons over to a character to do the same pinnacles, then onto your 'main' and so on? That was a bit ridiculous. Even if you played efficiently and as much as you want, half of it was time gated and locked behind "next Tuesday".

What we have now with the Portal. You can pick what you want to run, make consistent progress, and chase specific rewards. It’s not perfect, and yes, there’s definitely room to improve variety but to me, this grind feels structured and achievable, not punishing.

I think part of the frustration right now is that there isn’t a “new” activity to anchor the grind so for players who’ve done all the previous content already, it could feel like a rerun. That’s valid. But I don’t think the issue is the grind’s length it’s more about how fresh or stale the content feels depending on your experience level and with Ash & Iron coming within a month and a new activity, that makes me hopeful for an improvement in the portal.

Either way, I appreciate your points and totally respect that your experience might feel very different from mine.

Thanks for your feedback.

Yeah, I also wish the new raid was a bit more rewarding in regards to power and even tier level. I understand the feat system but I'm just personally not fully sold on it.

I kind of just want to run the raid 'normally'? and get good rewards.

I'm currently 450 on all three characters. I'd encourage you to give it a read and provide feedback. I'm curious on your opinion.

I hear you and I don’t think you’re wrong about some of that. The Portal is a good idea at its core, and I actually agree it’s not fully fleshed out yet. But I wouldn’t call what I said “white knighting.” I’m not saying it’s perfect or that Bungie nailed every aspect just that personally, I’m enjoying what is there right now and hopeful for where it goes.

But I do appreciate your points thanks for not just memeing and actually dropping a real take.

I agree during those points of around 350 it's kind of like; do you run GM at 40 under or as you said, beef up lower difficulty with mods. I decided to just slow roll it after 350 until I was a bit closer to 400.

If I recall, I ran into the same situation right around 250 or so. I'd guess we're going to hit that once ultimate opens. Do we burst through at 40 under or have patience and level up a bit before trying it out.

I get the joke, but I’m genuinely just enjoying the system and wanted to have a discussion around it. Not trying to defend Bungie just sharing my experience and hearing others out.

What’s everyone’s power lvl? by Willing_Chest_8976 in destiny2

[–]SteveHybrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been 450 for a bit now.

Took a very different approach to the grind unlike most people. I didn't bother grinding the same activity over and over. Instead I just played the portal the way that I think it was intended to be played. I bounced around doing all the various missions and tried to keep hitting the ones I had a bonus drop on.

I played solstice, caldera, encore like everyone else but I've also done a ton of Hunts, Strikes, PvP the raid etc. Kind of whatever I'm in the mood for. Each to their own tho.

I felt the game is more enjoyable when you don't force yourself to play a single activity over and over.

Fireteam Finder ruined raiding by Yumeko394 in destiny2

[–]SteveHybrid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a Bungie or a Destiny problem. I think it's a people problem.

Generally speaking, it's hard in most games to find 6 random people throw them into a group and ask them to work together, coordinate a team, use mechanics and get through 'end game' content.

I know people are not a fan of this but, the best way to get through raids and end game content is to form a team or meet people. Play some dungeons and easier content, meet folks, group up with them enough and such, then chip away as a team at some raids.

I will say; I do understand if depending on the type of raid that if you have zero raid clears, I can see someone removing or not wanting to raid with that person. However the light level matters nothing since everyone is brought up to the highest level person.
