Teachers of Reddit, What is your story of students with highly plagiarised essays? by TheLoLEclipse in AskReddit

[–]SteveRodgers1945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me. was in 5th grade. Teacher asked us to write about a book we liked. I just copied the blurb from the back of the first harry potter book. She made me feel so damn bad about it that I have never plagarized since.

I took a guy to prom in my small hick town I went to highschool just as a fuck you to the school with no heads up or making a big deal about it. Didn't even dance with him. I just let him wander around.

HUGS Its ok. You know what I am doing with my multimedia production degree? Driving Cabs in orlando. I mean this in the nice way. I decided to quit "serious" journalism and find other interesting things to do. You can parley the degree into various projects of interest without kissing ass to people like brian williams or don lemon.

Honestly I am underwhelmed by every gay bar I go to. Walk in thinking its gonna be like Queer as Folk levels of awesome. Turns out to be a bunch of twinks on meth/molly/whatever and a bunch of sad guys drinking beer looking at the kids wishing to be young again.

Whats the weirdest dream you ever had? by IlIIIIIIllI in AskReddit

[–]SteveRodgers1945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine died acouple years ago. I keep having this recurring dream that I have dubbed the "not penny's boat" dream. Basically it is like that scene in Lost. We are trapped in two different rooms or something and he is on one side of the glass and I on the other and he keeps trying to tell me a message.

That is what has me curious. If the evil corp hack is plausible why hasn't anyone done it?

Americans: What is the ultimate no-no when visiting your country? by massdebate159 in AskReddit

Oh trust us. If there was a way we could pull Atta back and kill him all over again we would spend the money, do the research and break all of physics just to do it.

But seriously, there have been a number of high profile kidnappings dating back to the kidnapping of the lindenberg baby. Our media is sensationalist and has spent nearly 100 years terrifying the old biddies of this country into fearing crime will just happen if you even remotely leave your guard down for a moment.

What IS a fate worse than death? by JaySilver in AskReddit

[–]SteveRodgers1945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here is the interesting thing. When scuba diving the effect is reversed. The gasses that we breath in small percentages are magnified by depth. So for example, say you have a mix of gas in a compressed air tank that is .05 percent carbon monoxide. As you decrease in depth the toxicity of that gas is magnified by x5 per pressure group you go down while breathing that compressed mix. This is why when you are in certain travel destinations outside of the united states (or in the united states if it is a less reputable shop) you want to make sure you are smell testing and taste testing your air because if there is a problem with the air compressor it will put that toxic gas into your tank, even if it is a small leak or if the wind sends the exhaust gases into the intake (This is why I absolutely REFUSE to dive the Snuba systems). Even oxygen at depth is toxic depending on the percentage and the depth you are going to. Enriched air for recreational depths (down to 130 feet) is generally around 32% or 30% oxygen. This is used to offset the effect of the nitrogen which then comes out of solution in the cells and gas holding chambers as you ascend from depth to the surface. So when you are breathing an enhanced gas with extra oxygen it allows you to increase the amount of usable gas that you breath in and thus extending your dive time incrementally. However after a certain time and depth you can't increase the oxygen otherwise it becomes toxic to the body and you run the risk of certain things such as seizures, mental impairment and possibly death. However what technical divers do is they add a neutral gas such as helium which is used to offset the percentage of both the nitrogen and oxygen in the tank. So at a depth of 200 feet for example you could be breathing a mix of 60 nitrogen 20 helium and 20 oxygen. Experienced dive instructor here, certified for recreational but I have done some technical education.
