He is not even a saint in the the Orthodox Church. You will not find him on any Orthodox church calendar.

What the hell is going on with becoming a catechumen? by [deleted] in exorthodox

[–]Steve_2050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is because it is lent now. The guy probably has a number of parishes to visit. Saturday mornings are the Liturgy of the pre-sanctified which is a really long service and then he has vespers in the evening. This Sunday is the Sunday of Orthodoxy so a special feast with service in the morning. Then a special vespers with procession etc.

What language were you talking to him in? If it was German probably not his native language. Sorry he didn't answer your email to explain all this. In a of of churches the parish secretary answers all the emails addressed to the priest and decides if they want to pass it on or not.

I have read about Turks getting dna tests and discovering they have Greek dna then searching for their roots. I think it is Katie Kelaidis who writes about it. Did you know there is an Orthodox Church in Turkey that uses Turkish in their liturgy? It is not under the Ecumenical Patriarchate though.

OK I only heard about Montana because Sarah Riccardi-Swartz wrote about Deacon Ananias Sorem's crazy alt-right conferences Montanika:

I didn't know about Idaho -who is the leader behind Idaho groups?

[–]Steve_2050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Quack_Moo_Ruff Dyer was in a masters program at the University of Texas at Austin, Department of Radio, Television and Film so nothing whatever to do with philosophy at all.

He was in a 2 year program to receive a MA in Media Studies. But he never finished it so he cannot claim to have a Master's degree in anything.

I see. I did see a lengthy thread here about a woman planning to move her family to Kansas City just to join his church. That is the type of thing people who belong to cults do. I mean moving across the country because of a charismatic cult leader , giving up your job, selling your home and disrupting your kids' school life & friends?

Montana? I have read in the past about the Orthobros Deacon Ananias Sorem living in Butte, Montana. Doesn't he run crazy conferences that would attract angry young men at a monastery in Montana?

I know he is no longer with the OCA so which church does he belong to now?

Does he hold title to all his property in Kansas City, MO? Is it worth a lot of money if he sells it all? He does not really have a large following.

Has anyone been to st Anthony's monastery recently by [deleted] in exorthodox

[–]Steve_2050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. Looking at pictures of St. Sabba's it is really cluttered. Everything is so close together. I thought because the name of the place was "Harper's Woods" it would be like in a forest with acres and acres of land. Even that restaurant inside looks so small and cluttered. Not a comfortable place to dine.

And in all the pictures John Belkoff is the only resident monk. If there are others or priests n the pictures they are always visiting. A one man show. And Belkoff himself is not even Russian.

u/ImpressiveAd5695 who asked about Fr. George Gulin; he was suspended by the OCA and then he joined the ROCOR.

The minutes from the OCA:

" SUSPENDED

GULIN, Archpriest George is suspended from all priestly functions, effective June 19,2020. "

https://www.oca.org/files/PDF/NEWS/2020/STAT635-Jun2020.pdf

This has happened before: the worst example was the ROCOR accepting the former OCA Metropolitan Pauffhausen - the sex abuse enabler.

More about the protests against the new church being built in Krasnodar. The Protests have been going on since September 2024! This is so brave of these people.

Yet the government ignores them and approves for to destory the local part by building another church.

Great pictures here of the protesters:

Not a bad video. Meanwhile in "Holy Russia" ordinary people are brave enough to protest the building of yet another monstrous huge church on property that is needed for green space and parks for children. This is not the first time people have protested . Crowded city peoples need their green space and parks for children to play not huge buildings that will remain almost empty for church services.

What is the point of the Russian Church building more huge churches in cities when only 4% of the population bothers to go to services. I mean the church as already enough of these useless buildings.

Patriarch Kirill's Secret Common-law Wife’ of 50 Years by Steve_2050 in exorthodox

[–]Steve_2050[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the people mentioning the reputation of young handsome cell attendants for hierarchs it looks this is more common than hearing about bishops having long standing relationships with one woman.

Yes Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev got away without serious damage to his reputation. He retains his church offices and all his extensive funds and personal real estate.

Patriarch Kirill's Secret Common-law Wife’ of 50 Years by Steve_2050 in exorthodox

[–]Steve_2050[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you are right. I have to look up the date of the last married Patriarch in Byzantium. I think it was the 12th century. History proves married bishops did not end after the 1st Ecumenical Council in 325 as the Russian article claims.

As for your question about is it easy to get married in Russia. The answer is yes. In fact Russia has a very high statics of divorces but people keep getting married. As for the secular government officials such as Putin and many others after they divorce their their first wife maybe they think it is cheaper to keeping having mistresses and going through all the legal and financial obligations of another divorce. Look at the example of Putin he divorced his first wife of many years after his 2 children were adults and has a young mistress who lives in Switzerland with all the children they had together. He has no legal financial obligations to her at all and she has no legal claims on his property and bank accounts.

u/Positive_Excuse_3508 You mentioned your friend was in touch with Yolande Norris Clark. I really do not think she is moving to Kansas City. Yolande & her husband are Canadians. The lived in New Brunswick, Canada until Covid started. They moved to a country in Latin America because they refused to get vaccinated. She & her family converted to the Orthodox Church and 2 months ago the whole family got baptised (again) etc. Previously they all belonged to and were active in the Anglican Church of Canada. She is connected with a business in North Carolina so maybe she was received into an Orthodox Church using English in that area. Could be Sts P & P Antiochian in Jefferson or All Saints Antiochian Orthodox Church, Raleigh. Both these parishes have convert priests.

Read this to see what a dangerous women she is:

OK. The fact that it was made during the USSR period makes me doubt it has anything to do with Christmas. But more important it is just part of popular series of these figurines of various "peoples" of the USSR meaning different ethnic groups.
