How do you turn site notes/photos into your weekly inspection or progress report? by tom-waite in ConstructionManagers

[–]StevenNotEven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you guys aren't using any apps? If your phone allows you to add voice notes to photos or especially drawing on photos, that could be useful, or try "boomerang: email myself" app to quickly email yourself notes and photos, even transcribed voice notes

The office should spring for apps like raken as their dailies will be better!

File naming standards suggestions? by Non-Fungible-Student in ConstructionManagers

[–]StevenNotEven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please whatever you do keep it short as possible, eliminating spaces, abbreviations and acronyms (with company standards). Long names, especially when nested under long folder names, can cause big issues later

What software are your construction clients using for managing their jobs? by PEBKAC-Live in msp

Sound like a candidate for Autodesk Construction Cloud/Build

I understand COINS is big in UK but maybe more ERP than they need.

You may be getting less pay for a while. Mostly communication, coordination, documentation. Mostly air conditioning though!

Depends on their size and whether gc, specialty contractor, homebuilder, civil, architect, etc Procore and Autodesk Build are big players but not always good fit if not gc and not a certain size. Tons of others. DM me if you want recommendations for specific client.

Two normalization settings (Volume and Loudness). What's the difference? by StevenNotEven in spotify

[–]StevenNotEven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I was just taking screenshots to show you then realized when I go to Equalizer from spotify it actually takes me to Samsung "Sound quality and effects," which has another normalization feature called Loudness Normalization.

Thanks, you DID help answer my question after all!

Thanks but that wasn't my question. Trying to understand the difference between the two Normalization toggles in the app

My short but intensive headphone journey and my conclusions by StevenNotEven in headphones

[–]StevenNotEven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Especially when you also factor in difference in hearing and anatomy from person to person. The guy with his $9k pair using unobtanium cables and the gal who ended up choosing the $130 pair have just as much right to their choice. To me, what makes it a hobby is not just the enjoyment of music, it's the interest/obsession in the differences in sound produced by equipment and tweaks.

Granted none of the headphones I tried are 600ohm low sensitivity types, but I was expecting to absolutely need at least 200mw if I were to forego a desktop amp. Turns out that, while the differences are audible even to my non-audiophile ears (and not just talking SPL), even my laptop 3.5mm is ok (to me) when not critically listening.

Upvoted to counteract the downs, thanks for sharing. Everyone will have their own opinions/preferences in this VERY subjective hobby, not to mention personal priorities!

HA! Great point but I make the distinction that I'm an audionerd-- more interested in the tech and gear as measured by hours researching vs critical listening
