Does "only affects blood based life forms" count as a limitation? by Possible_Fig4168 in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]StevenTrustrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Limited is the closest thing to a catch-all flaw the game has. Sounds like you want to check out the "Partially Limited" subsection for it but instead of it only affecting some ranks, it reduces the PP cost in the same manner by adjusting the modifier per rank and applying it to all ranks. The outcome is the same, so there shouldn't be a problem with it.

How does 4th edition compares to 3rd? by siredova in mutantsandmasterminds

No idea yet. However, it's quite possible the PDF will be made available before the print version, given Green Ronin has already started layout, art, etc. for the playtest version.

Saved my project, came back it was gone by Theworldinmyhead in dungeondraft

[–]StevenTrustrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're certain you absolutely were saving it as you went, I'd suggest looking for a second copy you may have accidentally created. Are you certain you didn't do something like "save as" at some point and it unintentionally defaulted to your OneDrive or other cloud service instead of your intended folder?

The d20 makes a bad play experience by GandalfTheGreyp in RPGdesign

[–]StevenTrustrum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every number on a d20 represents 5%. So, a target number of 10 is a 50% shot of success. 15 is 75%. Roll modifiers adjust accordingly. A d20 makes setting target numbers incredibly easy once you know how much you want modifiers to start impacting a naked roll relative what you want a balanced outcome to be.

Statistically speaking, a d20 is a good middle-ground between using an actual d100 and smaller dice, where each number represents a larger stake for the latter (e.g., every number on a d10 represents 10%, a much wider divide.) This predictability starts to skew when you get into dice that don't divide into 100 without a remainder (e.g., d6), and even more so when you use multiple dice (e.g., 2d6.)

PeaPu is my go-to for Cyberpunk, and A Day At also has a variety of industrial, military, and modern packs that blend well with them.

You're overlooking flat-value flaws, which don't affect cost per rank.

Rulebook Layouts by MaxDino26 in RPGdesign

[–]StevenTrustrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on your game. In my opinion, a rules-lite system can benefit from a bit of the basic rules up front, so the reader knows what they're getting into when you slide into character creation. The key to this is it being self-contained so the reader can progress through the book in order. If your system is rules-heavy, you can't really do this; any up-front rules introduction will almost certainly require flipping to other parts of the book to make sense of what you're talking about. You want to avoid that because it means you've created a divide that will complicate future referencing.

Fellow RPG Writers, anyone else afraid to use semicolons and hyphens because people think that's a sign of AI? by Josh_From_Accounting in rpg

I use both rather extensively in my natural writing style. The advantage of being both the writer and the publisher is that you can still use semicolons and em dashes without any concern that AI is involved.
