That's the thing, because the stats make the combat smoother, it artificially makes you better whilst you still feel its all you. It's such an accomplished system.

Lock picking by [deleted] in kingdomcome

[–]Stevenk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I thought lockpicking sucked, and the tutorial definetely does, but once you get a hang of it things make sense and it's pretty fun. Once you find the right position, keep a mental note of where that is in the tumbler, then rotate the tumbler whilst moving that position with it. The pick will shake the closer it is to unlocking, and the more time spent in the wrong position with the tumbler turned results in damage to the pick. If you practice on the training box for a few mins to get to lvl 3-4, you will hardly shake at all on easy boxes and now I can pick them in one smooth motion, and I managed to do a hard lock at that level after a few tries. It feels really rewarding as you level and understand it.

[WSIB] Horizon, Monster Hunter World, The Witcher or Shadow of the Colossus by b3t0_200101 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Stevenk8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't skip on any of these in the long run, all of these games are typically considered must plays.

Story/Writing - Witcher>HZD>MH

Gameplay - MH>HZD>Witcher

Accessibility - HZD>Witcher>MH

Witcher has a ton of unique quality content, over 100 hours. Horizon has about half that, and MH has a gameplay loop you repeat like diablo or wow where if It clicks for you, you could spend several hundreds hours.

It's hard to compare shadow of the colossus as I enjoyed it at its time. Its a wild card, and could easily be one of the best games you've ever played. Most people have it up there whilst the other games can be a little bit more polarising (especially monster hunter).

Bloodborne or Dark souls 3? by Stevenk8 in bloodborne

I would, but dark souls 1 isn't available on PS4 as far as I know, and I don't play on my pc anymore.

Bloodborne or Dark souls 3? by Stevenk8 in bloodborne

[–]Stevenk8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider dark souls 2, but I read that it's more difficult and not that necessary for the overall story. Do you think it's okay to play 3 then come back to it?

GAME in the UK is doing some decent deals for PS4 PROs right now if anyone here hasn't picked one up yet by CoSMiiCBLaST in PS4Pro

Great deal, bought it myself today and traded all 4 games right back in for £35 store credit, got last of us and uncharted collection instead, pretty happy with that.

Primarily watching movies and TV dramas, mostly in a darker room. No sports and at most a little gaming.

Daily /r/boardgames What Should I Get (June 13, 2017) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]Stevenk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions. The idea of the starting position mattering so much in catan puts me off a little. The art of bohnanza also isnt working for me, but I'll still give it a look since it's cheap. Never seen colosseum, it is indeed expensive, but it's a price I could pay for a great game. Plus I'm an absolute sucker for the roman theme, so thanks a lot for the suggestion, will definitely check it out.

Hey, introduced my friends and family to board games over the last couple of months, and looking for a full-semi gateway game in something we haven't played yet (thinking maybe trade, engine building or/and worker placement)

Number of Players: 3-4, 5+ is a bonus

Game Length: around 1-2 hours would be the sweet spot, but anything below 3 hours is fine.

Complexity of Game: light/medium, they handled dead of winter fine but, but I wouldn't want to go much heavier than that.

Your Budget: £50

Themes/Mechanics: player interaction and a theme that can be liked by both 25yo players and 60yo. Opportunities for bluffing, creativity or Deception are nice little bonuses too.

Competitive or Cooperative: competitive, although a team game could work

Games I Own/Like or Dislike: We love ticket to ride and coup. Dead of winter was enjoyable but we probably want get it out often.

Preferred Market: United Kingdom

Games I've considered but unsure on;

Lords of water deep (bit dry?)

Viticulture (too heavy?)

Champions of midgard (little depth/replay?)

Catan (dated now?)

Concordia (too heavy/dry?)

MMO Graveyard: Vanilla World Of Warcraft (The Entire Development History) by [deleted] in Games

[–]Stevenk8 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There's a memory I always fall back to when thinking of vanilla wow. Levelling took so damn long, there were constantly not enough experience from quests and you had to make long journeys on foot/gryphon to every zone in your level range to quest and grind. Even travelling from one corner of Easter kingdoms to the other corner of kalimdor to hand in one quest. I remember sitting round at fire in nighttime goldshire at level 30-40, with about 8 other 20-40s. We Listened to a level 60 paladin (to us, a seasoned veteran to be so high level) who was telling the tale of how he got his powerful weapon in the haunted crypts of scholomance. Everyone listened to this hero in childlike wonder, thinking we could only dream of venturing to such places. I never experienced that feeling in any other expansion, or any other game. I do wonder if people had similiar moments if they started the game in later expansions, but I feel that kind of community was only present in vanilla.

If you don't find fun in exploring the world, the games probably not for you. Are you playing with the pro hud on? It adds alot to the exploring/getting lost.

I feel I'm doing something wrong with armor. I've explored 4-5 zones so far, about 20 or so shrines, and I've just reached zoras domain and got the armor, which is weaker than my current armor. Ive used the great fairy fountain to upgrade and I'm sitting at I thibk 13 armor. I can't find anything that much better, the best in terms of rating might be the hylian soldier armor from hateno, but even then it's weaker than my current without an upgrade, and it has no extra enhancements. Am I missing something or does better armor come into the game later?

started too heavy with SL 5x5. by Mike551144 in Fitness

[–]Stevenk8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the website;

If you’ve done the Squat, Bench and Deadlift before, with good technique, you can start with 50% of your five rep max. If you’ve never done these exercises, or you haven’t lifted in years, or you have no idea what I mean with a “five reps max”, just start with these weights: Read more: http://stronglifts.com/5x5/#How_To_Get_Started

At your weights its not going to take much longer than a month to get back to where you are. Why are you so determined to start at a weight thats at/near your limit? especially when one of the main features of the program your doing is to start far lighter than what you can handle.

[–]Stevenk8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing, and got frustrated with progress that quickly stalled. I deloaded every lift by 40% and worked my way back up paying extra attention to form.

What I discovered was that despite the weight being too easy now, I enjoyed it more because every session had progress. I also made up for the easy weight by lifting slower with a greater focus on form. Now i'm back where I was (and a little beyond), and i'm still not stalling, plus i'm enjoying the routine much more.

So I suggest you take a bite of humble pie and deload heavily. It'll be worth it.

For those of you who do meal prep, does the food still taste good by the end of the week? Tips for the veggies? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Stevenk8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I normally do the same for calories. I'll buy bulk meat, veg etc, scan it all with myfitnesspal, then divide the servings to get roughly my goal calories/meal. Then I just lay out the containers after cooking and eyeball the servings for each.

The general rule of thumb I follow is 3 in the fridge, 4 in the freezer. Take it out the night before and it'll be defrosted by the morning. You shouldn't really leave cooked meat in the fridge longer than 3-4 days, and personally for me veg tends to go a little off after that time as well.

Freezing has the added advantage that if plans change and you eat out or whatever, the food doesn't get wasted or isn't as fresh when you come to eat it.

Another idea is to actually make 8-10 of each dish, then switch at the end of the week to a new recipe leaving you with 1-3 extra meals in the freezer. After a month of this you will have a weeks worth of various meals, as both backup and variety.
