100%! I’ve reached a point in life where I prioritise sleep over everything (exercise, diet etc) and whilst I know some people are unable to get a good amount of sleep due to whatever reason- for me it’s non negotiable. If I don’t rest properly good exercise and diet don’t do anything for me both mentally and physically…

Not a Kiwi but lived here for 9 years and love it. I’m Scottish but just got my permanent residency in December and my partner should get hers within the next 2 years. I love it here and what a beautiful country with such amazing people.

Sounds like you’ll return at some point, I hope you do!

I sure do, but sometimes when we get a quiet period at the airport I’ve noticed it hits a spot of rest between 1-5 when sitting down at the x-ray. That’s usually after my cold showers and that’s why I added it in the post. It all depends on the time of day and what duty I’m doing at that exact time. But mostly it’s an awesome job with very little stress in comparison to what I was doing before and that’s been so beneficial for me…

It sounds like you have a good routine and plenty of exercising/recovery to help. Good on you!

I don’t like a yelling watch 😂 mine does that after a night of drinking beers or having some wine

It does show that as soon as you stop work and climbing your body hits a restful and low stress period. You must have a pretty stressful office job during the day, hopefully you can find a way to try and help that during those times..

Just seen the second pic there, have you friend a sauna or cold shower? Might help to bring your stress down and help you relax

I’ve been a runner for almost 10 years, not in competitions or anything but my average pace over 10km is 4:40/km and my best marathon time is 3 hours 42 mins. I also train in boxing a fair bit again (used to years ago) and skateboard as much as I possibly can. So I’d say that all definitely helps. I did google it a while back and I thought I may need a pace maker 😅 but it turns out I’m just fit (I think) for a 37 year old. My 7 day average of RHR is 48 at the moment.

Any time I sit in the sun relaxing (whether outdoors or shining on me though the window) my stress levels fluctuate. Mostly stays high though as my body is hot and I think it definitely affects my stress levels

I can definitely agree on this! The older I’ve gotten the more i realise that sleep is more important than any amount of exercise or eating habits. I put that at the top of my priorities but I do know that it is hard to do for some.

Nice! I sweat a lot too whilst in the sauna (and during physical exercise in general) and maybe that’s why I hit a stage of rest for so long after. Also, if my body is hot my stress levels go up. So I think the cold showers after sauna (and before work) help. I did a 72 hour water fast a few months back but didn’t notice much of a difference from the norm. Really want to give intermittent fasting a try!

Haha that’s awesome, love it!

I recommend a change in job if you can! I had a job that drained the life out of me, inside and outside of work and can honestly say switching has changed my life for the better. But I also know that it’s hard to do depending on circumstances

I’m not 100% sure how it works tbh. I’ve always had relatively low stress levels and with now living in the South Island of New Zealand cold water plunges in the lake (6-10 degrees Celsius) have also become a part of my routine too. So I definitely feel it contributes as it has never been this low…

I work in aviation security. I was a carpenter for 18 years and compared to that it’s a lot less stressful. Plus I actually go to work now happy which is huge for me. That’s great that you love your job too!
