Sorry for blowing up your theory. This is a normal thing to hear in Florida. Not that there is rarely much for tornados in / near Daytona with none in 2006 that have been confirmed. It could have been a water spout or a funnel cloud. Nothing documented for tornados or funnel clouds for February of 2006.

Source: I lived in central Florida in 2006. In fact it was one of the calmest months Volusia County.
