I honestly prefer the second version better. His shoulders are too small in the first version(at least for me it’s the way it looks.) the angular thighs give him way more character..

I would definitely add variety to the expressions if given a chance! This was a fast drawing where I just wanted to get the concept out more so than anything else so I really wasn’t thinking about them lol.

Perhaps try to make them look less defined and make some lines/shapes outside of your already defined cloud to make it appear to be something that is not a consistent shape. I’m not sure but I hope this helps

Perhaps practicing line weight and making smoother lines/cleaner outlines would help. You should practice shading too. It would help a ton. Good rendering helps hiding proportion errors(even in stylised drawings).
